Where can i find it? I have over 4k of steel core surplus but i can't use it at my club anymore...
I'm assuming most if not all surplus is steel core. So far i dissected bullets from czech, polish and romanian surplus. All are m43 and have a steel core.

Is MFS or Barnaul ammo lead core or steel?

In the worst case i guess i can pull bullets from the 2 crates of brass cased ammo that i have and replace them with lead, but thats time consuming.

P.S. If you call Mississauga Le Barons and they will say that their Romanian surplus is lead... don't believe them :D

You can tell from the Romanian lettering on the case which cases are lead and which are steel core. I forget which letter is the 'tell".

I have 1 case of steel cased and 2 of brass cased, all three are stamped MD43, and unfortunately all three are steel core. All the cases at local store are marked md43 as well. From what i saw online, the only surplus lead core is Yugoslavian m67 and all of that goes to the states as they prohibited 7.62x39 steel core as "pistol armour piercing ammo".

As far as I know, the starter of this thread must gry involved. i am no expert, but all surplus ammo will be steel core, corrosive primers. This shows that the Eastern Block socialist states were adhering to the Geneva Convention which says no expanding bullets. Further more the makers wanted as much penetration as possible.

As I see it, your only answer is to buy brass cases, set up for reloading, cast your own and go from there.

The upside to this is that you will get into reloading and have a ball! But be certain that you learn it from the ground up or you will have problems. Try and find some one who is knowledgeable to mentor you, even before you buy anything.

Good luck!

Some of the Romanian I got at leBaron is lead core. It is also brass-cased. Did you test the bullet of your brass cased ammo with a sidecutter? The jacket has steel, so it sticks to magnet. Only a cutter will tell you if the core is lead.
