I recently bought a Swedish Ljungman AG42, dated 1943, but it doesn't have a mag. I've seen some mags for sale for the AG42b or the Hakim (which are apparently interchangable?) but I havn't found any for the plain AG42. Can the AG42b/Hakim mags be modified for the AG42? If not, does anyone know somewhere or somebody who sells these or has extras for sale?

"...apparently interchangable..." Not quite. AG 42 mags are scarce. Gunparts listed 'em at $75.95US each. Sold out, of course. Even if they did have 'em, they wouldn't pin it for you. You might find one at a gun show.

AG-42 and 42B are interchangable. B was simply an update. They had to change out the non stainless steel gas tubes to stainless ones due to corrosion.

I'd be surprised if you find a magazine and if you do you're looking at $100 +.

Hakim and, Ljungman Mags are interchangeable. The Hakim doesn't sport any hasp on the front of it.

I've owned my Ljungman for about 25 years and, was without a Magazine for 4 of them. 2011 is the year of the mag. for me...found one, sub 100$'s shipped to the door. They are out there but, not common.

I'd like to see a picture of your's, if you have a chance. The differences between a 42 and, a 42B include the gas tube and, the action cover modified to "bullet/teat" shaped cocking knobs (orig. looked like the Hakim's)

In that case it's definitely the 42b; I hadn't realized that they converted most of them. I'll try to get a picture up in the next few days.

I haven't had time to get pictures of my own sorted, but if you search for a ljungman AG42 on google images, it's the same as the first few that come up, just minus the mag.

Here's a picture of mine...minus the Mag. I just got the mag earlier this year. Posted originally in a hunting with milsurps thread.

It's the "Top Gun". Bad picture but, you can see bullet/teat shaped holds on the cover...if you find a Ljungman with the "Hakim" style holds (flat plate with three slashes to grip) and, a rusty gas tube you've got a 42. Wonder how many (if any) are actually in Canada?

EDIT:

Middle .303 is an ex's and, the bottom is a vz24 that was "sporterized" (Bolt bent, scope mounted and, stock carved for bent bolt...cleaning rod got misplaced somwhere along the way)in the early 60's...
