Hi, I just received a new " M-305" from Dark.
The following information is located on the receiver;

M14 .308
CJA SFLD MICH
Norinco Made In China

# 002###

Does this mean my receiver was made by Springfield?
The serial number seems to be low, and I am wondering if this is one of the earlier models, the ones with the problems such as soft bolts?

I look forward to your replies as I would like to get as much info as possible.

P.S. The stock is as I expected finish-wise, I do have plans for a synthetic stock, but not right now. Any sugestions on how to improve/refinish the Norinco stock?

The markings are standard, applied to the receiver for sale in the US. This was before the embargo on Chinese arms. Subsequently, the receiver was assembled into a rifle for export to Canada. I understand that the "00" in the receiver indicates assembly in 2000. The Chinese importer had the address in Springfield, Michigan. This has nothing whatsoever to do with the US arsenal or Springfield, Inc. The bolt should be OK, but headspace may be generous by civilian standards. The stock is chu wood (catalpa). It is fairly soft, but works. It can be synthetic bedded, to enhance stability. It could be refinished, but why bother? Because the wood is soft, it will mark easily. Before trying to remove the flash hider, look very carefully for hidden welds. It may be tacked in place, once again for post-ban US regulations.

I picked up a Norinco in September and did a bit of refinishing to the stock...details here: http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31575

I just had it out last weekend (delayed due to the flu and ammo shortages!) and had great fun--I had forgotten how enjoyable and comfortable they are to shoot.

(p.s. you can see from the pix that my receiver has the similar markings to yours!)
