Looking to buy the Benelli M4 shotgun (or clone) and want some CGN input. I’m looking for first hand input as I’ve done the Google and other forum research already.

I had one a long time ago but got rid of it, so I have some experience with it. I recall it coming with a modified choke and Benelli recommended slugs and buck only be used through an Improved Cylinder choke so I never used the modified choke.

So I’m looking for input, personal experience, maybe some round counts. And dangers or issues using slugs and 00 buck with a modified choke.

I think you'll find disagreement here but I've found good results with IMP CYL and MOD chokes for slugs. The MOD tends to need a little more cleaning from swaging the slugs a little more.

I've never heard of a safety issue with MOD, apparently some people even shoot from a full choke but that seems extreme to me.

For patterning, buckshot can act a little funny and not choke down like you might hope. Especially if it's a flight control style load.

I'd test and pattern and see what it likes. There's also a light modified choke I believe that fits in between IMP CYL and MOD.

Regular foster and brenneke style slugs are fine through modified, some might even shoot better. Under most normal circumstances they should even be fine throuugh full choke, just nothing tighter than that. And no sabots or solids, lead slugs only. Save the sabots for the rifled barrel.

00 buck is fine through full too, it may affect your pattern a bit, the shot can sometimes get a bit smushed going through full.
