New hikers /light weight with good tread

Any suggestions? I just realized my Vasque Gore tex mids have a crack in the Tread? (all the way across) Anyhow, I was thinking about something light weight, good tread, and with ankle support.

I have a pair of 5.11 8" black boots for work, and to be honest, they are very tough, and are in good shape after nearly 3 years. They have 6" mids, but I have seen some Oakleys on sale in NS. I think I saw some posts about persons wearing them, and wonder how they are holding up?

Mo, I have been using Adidas GSG-9 for the past 8 years..I am on my second pear now. You can get them from Botach or Tactical & Survival in US. I have also heard that Oakley's are good as well. Email me and I will give you the phone # for the GSG 9's

I had a pair of Vasque Sequoia boots about 30 yrs ago. Excellant workmanship, and when the soles wore down, I had a cobbler resole them. It cost a bit, but the boots were good for a few more seasons (until my feet grew).

Oakleys rock, but I love my new Danner TFX's (I think that's what the desert boots are called). best boots I've ever owned. much more durable than the Oakleys.

I had Oakleys and they were like slippers for comfort, I found them not enough traction in the wet, though. They didn't last very long - fell apart in a year.

I've gone back to low cut runners for off road - My Merrills have great traction, and are waterproof. Nike now makes some serious treaded ACG sneakers too.

Time for a trip to the local specialty store.;)

I just crossed Oakley's off my list, I need something to last a few years.

+1 on the trail runners. I have a pair of four year old Nike's that are my favorites, and a new pair of Merrils that are also excellent. The nice thing about trail shoes over boots is that you don't feel like you are wearing concrete blocks on your feet at the end of a long hot day. Nice and light, but great for traction on all surfaces, and plenty of latteral stability.

dude Danners, Danners, Danners. contact the guys at Daves Surplus, and talk to them. they'll listen to you and tell you what you need. 999 on here has both the desert and the reg (waterproof) boot. feel like nice comfy slippers man.

Count me in on the nike trail runners lotsa tred and they are pretty grippy indoors on the wonderful polished concrete of most of the indoor ranges.

i have a pair of north face "flight series" they say, "TNF trail grip" on the bottom.
they are gore-tex. chose them cause they're gore-tex & the tread is very aggressive, which should help grap slippery grassy terrain.

I only used them a few times this summer before breaking my ankle, not while wearing these shoes.

they were comfortable & feet didn't sweat. I'd give them a try.

I got a pair of the under armour hammer mids a month or two back and love them. worn them at a match the day after I got them with out breaking them in at all and they were right comfy. The spikes have just enough compression in them that you still get good grip on wood surfaces.

Like Sean said... the Oakleys are really comfortable but not durable at all. After less than a year, the sole is coming off and has become unglued at the toe, which leaves nice big holes for water and debris to enter.

You said you crossed them off your list... don't look back.

I got a pair of Merrell Continuum low hikers/ runners. Good ankle support, wicked low price as the guy who owns the store is friend of mine.
