Any suggestions? I like the var. red. in the Leapolds. I didn't but anything at the Calgary show so I have a few buck to burn.

Side AO is fantastic for adjusting parallax on-the-fly in the field. Mildots are equally valuable. 30mm tubes have a LCF, but don't really offer any tangible benefits for varminting. Primarily, they're designed to offer more elevation than 1" tubes - which is a non issue inside 600 yards.

I like the Bushnell 4200 6-24x40AO and the Leupold VX-3 'long range target' series

Actually, I've had the chance to use the VX-L's. The VX-III 50mm's are actually clearer optics and only about 2/3rds the price

Have a VXIII on my deer rifle and love it but couldnt afford another hit like that for a varmint scope so I went with a Bushnell 4200 4-16. Optics are quite good and several hundred dollars less than the VX. If you can afford it go for the Leupie-damn they are nice glass but the 4200 is not bad either. Go into a store that sells them both and do an A-B looking out a window to compare.
