We can't shoot steel core or steel jacket ammo at my range. I'm looking for either bulk projectiles 123gr FMJ to load my own or surplus ammo (corrosive ok) that passes the magnet test (case can be steel but projectiles can't be).

I've checked many sponsor sites but surplus ammo in spam cans appears to be steel core. Barnaul ammo is steel jacket so can't use that. Found one place that lists 123gr projectiles but they are out of stock.

If anyone knows where i can buy nonmagnetic bulk ammo or projectiles it would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hornady makes a FMJ 123gr. 7.62. for match and target shooting. Part Number 3147B. If you contact them, they can tell you if they are magnetic or not. I use their 123gr SP with no problems.

The Hornady Part Number 3147B/3147 (B is just for bulk) is non magnetic and is range safe. It is a .310 bullet. I reload with it currently but my CZ was happy with a .311 too. I personally wouldn't bother reloading for a sks if you want to load for precision and just stick with the bulk dominion.

I did find some 7.62x39mm American Eagle a while back at Cabelas 240rd $199. I bought it for the brass but made the mistake of using some in my sks. My sks chews the brass up pretty hard and leaves some pretty harsh marks on the case that will eventually cause a failure after reloading.

My sks only gets the steel case it was made for now.

Thanks for the info. Google is not helping me yet, but will keep looking. As jimmyjimjim says, the bulk Dominion may be best in the short term. SKS ammo gets expensive when you need 200 rounds for a 2-gun match and don't want to (i) use boxer primed brass cases, (ii) can't use steel core/jacket. I will keep looking for bulk 123gr projectiles in the low cost category. Definitely don't need 200 Hornady projectiles for my SKS!

Western metal has some reloaded lead core TMJ.

Thanks! Saw that and added to my list of sources. CanadaAmmo has them for about $0.52 each (when buying 500) or $0.50 each when buying 1000. That plus the free shipping over $200 had me place an order on 6/25. Delivery from BC to Ontario a bit slow... expected here July 15th.

I wonder how many others like me have lots of surplus steel core ammo that we can't shoot at indoor ranges? All of those Mosin/SKS/Tokarev firearm/ammo combos that were big a few years ago. I guess that is one advantage with outdoor ranges.
