Ok just need a check of opinions

Looking at the dimensions of the 8x63 and the 7mm RM, it looks like if one was to run a 7mm RM into a 8x63 chamber it would clean up the chamber leaving you with a necked up 8mm bullet on a 7mmRM case, just a slight trim of the length and you should be good to go.

.... as long as the magazine is long enough and the bolt face is opened to take the magnum case head

... and the magazine can be made to feed properly ... without smooth operation of the magazine it would not be my choice... and take into account the cost of a die set too. Do the action rails require alterations?

When you open up a chamber to fit a different caliber it's easy to cut an oval chamber unless you have an extra long pilot so I would be extra careful

The reamer should simply follow the existing chamber. It wants to... I have no idea how an oval chamber can be cut unless you are forcing the reamer to one side like a cutter in a milling machine...

Which would effectively give you a 323 pmm (8mm poor man's magnum). - dan

well with no source of easily reloadable 8x63, it is good to have an option

and I have a pile of once fired 7mmRM Brass, more then enough to keep the Ruger M77 I have fed so using what I have sitting in the bins.

Might even be able to use the 325WSM dies I have to do neck sizing and bullet seating.

It's actually a pretty good cartridge, almost an 8 Rem Mag. I might even have a set of dies on the shelf somewhere. - dan

well its a frankengun as is, commercial mauser action, Swedish 1919 MG barrel, very heavy profile, bolt face is magnum sized .535" so I suspect that it was a chambered in a magnum before it go the 8x63 barrel. I checked the Mag with some 7mmRM ammo and it fits fine and will feed without any work. only thing I need is more 8mm bullets as I only have 2 boxes of 200grn Accubonds that I am using for the 325WSM, I guess I should go down to P&D sometime this week to see what they have on the shelf

Going by the cartridge drawings, it looks like it should work. My biggest worry would be getting it to feed, but it looks like you have that sorted out already.

At least you have a reasonable justification for doing it, unlike some of the silly ideas here, like the 6x55 Swede, or Hoyt's .30 Redundant.

Oh I have my crazy ideas too :)

8x63 brass is just the choke point of this project.

sort of like 25RF and 32RF but those little guns its not just the ammo its the strength of the actions and their ability to handle the pressure of anything centerfire
