I'm in the market for another pistol, but I have specific requirements:

- relatively inexpensive
- inexpensive ammunition
- a lot of fun to shoot

I already have a 9, .45 and would like one of the following:

- Norinco Tokarev
- Ruger MKIII 22/45

If anyone has one of these and would like to comment on their functionality, advantages or drawbacks of owning them, please feel free to leave a comment in my thread. I've shot a little bit of both and like them about equally, so I'm looking for something that won't break in 2 months time. ;-)

So far, I'm leaning towards the Nork because I want some felt recoil. In addition, the price of both firearms and 2250 rounds of ammunition is almost exactly the same. Finally, the TT rounds cost twice that of .22 but only half that of 9mm.

Any thoughts ?

I don't own either of these , but my vote would go to the ruger. The ammo is cheaper and more readily available. If you want to go shooting , and are out of ammo, you could stop at Cambodia Tire(if you had to),if you were wanting to shoot the Tokarev, you won't find ammo for it in most smaller gunshops even.

Why is a russian-made Tok so much more desirable than a chinese-made one ? Aren't they practically as reliable/functional ?

Ones a civilian knock off, the other the issue item. No real difference functionaly, just no history in the norc, and thats really the main reason (to me) to buy one. I'll wait to find a eastern block one of some sort myself. The ammo for them is cheap (and corrosive) but not as cheap as .22 and while the ruger will give you nearly match accuracy, the norc is more 8" at 25 yards if your lucky.

That's weird: an acquaintance brought his Tok to the range and I was shooting 2" groupings at 15 yards! Are you sure the one you tried wasn't a dud?
