Looking for rabbits

Well I've decided to try for some rabbits despite the colder weather here in kamloops and I know where I'm going to try for them I also have my snow shoes along just in case. Now what I need to know is how do you preserve their fur. My mom wants me to save and treat it if I can for her to use (no idea what) and I have no idea how to go about preserving a fur pelt. So if any one here knows what I need to do PLEASE let me know.

You're mom prolly wants the rabbit hides for insoles?

Just stretch them out on a board , and let them dry out for a good couple days.

Light salting isn't necessary.

For anything more than warm insoles you need to tan the hides, which means a whole different and involved process.

how hard is the different process and what is needed. I kind of want to make me some nice rabbit skin gloves and if I get enough make me some moccasins granted I have till the end of April. Yes I know how to sew.

The rabbit skin is not thick enough for gloves or moccasins. The native people used them for liners and diapers as they were so absorbant and literally washable. When skinning you have to be very careful as the skins tear so easily. Usually removed inside out.

Hey CK, it's not really worth tanning rabbit fur, the hides are short lived, loose a lot of hair very fast, tanned or not.
Thats why you're best off drying the hides and keeping the part off the backs of the hide for insoles.
More durable and thicker and less likely to leave all that lighter hare(hair); falling out all over the place. Hope you're not alergic to it.
