Hi there -

I'm looking to start up a project with a long action in a Lefty Savage.

I'll likely start out with it as a 270 win(which i already have dies, brass etc.) And may also turn it into a 280 AI since I'd like to try toying around with F-Class sometime soon. (I already have an 280 AI in a cooper and would like a dedicated Target rifle.)

I was looking at some sites that talked about re-barelling a Stevens 200, adding a trigger etc. which looked like a great option. Yet I'm left handed - so would prefer to start with a left handed action if I can, and if i can just start with the action instead of buying a $600 left handed Savage that would be preferred.

Anyone know where I might be able to purchase a used/new left handed savage long action?

Any other advice on this project?

Thanks in advance!!!

If you are looking for something heavy to be shot only from a bench or prone you should consider one of Savage's target rifles, some are available with right bolt left port.

Where you are matters.
The Savage Target action will cost you the same or very close to the same money as a whole rifle. MSRP for a 'standard calibre bolt face' Target action is $595US. All of which are right handed bolts.
For just an action, look around for a used rifle. Mind you, it's not unusual for guys who are building rifles to buy a new rifle just for the receiver, but finding a left handed rifle with the right bolt face may be an issue.

Thanks for the reply's guys.

Since i still want to start out with a left handed action, and the target rifles in Savage are only right - i might just have to bide my time till a used lefty Savage shows up at ellwood epps or something, to start the project off. $600 bucks is the cheapest new left handed savage i can find - so i think i'll just have to be patient on this one.

Cheers.
Ted.
