Just bought a rem700 vtr in .223 and am looking for a good set of optics. Primary use will be target and coyote. I am looking to shoot at Long distance ( well as much as .223 will allow) i have been told redfield scopes are good if i dont want to shell out a ton of cash. I dont mind spending the money but dont want to spend thousands on a scope. Price range would be 5-600 if i need to go a little more i will.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Nikon Monarch have a 3-12x42 for $500 and a 4-16x42 for $540. If you use dogs to hunt coyotes I would probably go with the lower magnification but still gives you a little extra for targets. The bushnell 6500 2.5-16x42 would be an excellent choice for your application as it has the rainguard for those damp coyote hunts, it runs about $700+.

A Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 will certainly be enough for your purpose.

Optics are a great demonstration of the law of diminishing returns. It will cost a lot more than twice as much to get something twice as good. At some point, money and time spent on shooting practise does a lot more for your accuracy than money spent on a better scope.

I recently checked out the new Bushnell Elite, and I was quite impressed. You could buy a Leupold FX-3 6x42 with a long range duplex at that price point, or a 3-9x40 Conquest with the Rapid Z-600.

Check out the deals Omega Sports have right now in the OPTICS EE
They are clearing out Leupold, Redfield and Zeiss scopes at $200 + off list

If I were you i would get a Zeiss or a Leupold at those prices

Vortex Viper HS 4-16x50 puts you in the game well ahead of a Bushnell or Redfield, maybe even better than some of the other recomendations listed above.
