I just got off the SIG forum as well as AR15.com where there have been several threads regarding the Mosquito. Both of these threads basically said the Mosquito was a POS and was plauged with numerous problems.:(

I'm in the market for a .22 pistol and I really like the looks of the Mosquito. I just bought a SIG P220:D which is a very impressive piece of engineering, not to mention how well it shoots and figured a SIG .22 pistol would be just as well made as their other pistols.

I sure would like to here from the Mosquito owners here in Canada as to what you think of this gun.

Accuracy for this type of pistol is superb. Trigger pull takes a little getting used to, something I find with all combat pistols and pistols modeled after them. 9 times out of 10 I get a failure to feed with full 10 rounds in the mag, correct this by loading only 9 for now. Could be I just need to swap out with the other recoil guide spring for the ammo I use. I am happy with my purchase. That said, this is my blaze away pistol. When accuracy counts, I still fall back on the Buckmark, NEOS or Dan Wesson 22, and sometimes my new-to-me Ruger MarkII (deemed lazer by previous owner...and rightfully so!).

The Mosquito is a pot metal gun. The slide is cast zinc alloy . You'd expect somethig like that from Jennings or Lorcin, not SIG.

SIGARMs currently produces the SIG Sauer pistols that were designed in Switerland, manufacured initially in Germany, tested to death and made to last.
The Mosquito is designed and made by SIGARMs, a company without a whole lot of R&D experience. Just because the first couple letters of the company's name is the same does not make their products equal.

its a walter p22 in a new dress

Untrue...do you own either pistol? Having fired both pistols and owning a Mosquito personally, I can tell you that they are nothing alike. For starters the Sig is actually normal sized, the Walther is like holding on to a well worn bar of soap. I bought the Mosquito with the intention of torture testing it. In the short time I have had my Sig, I have put close to 3000rounds through it. I can see no issues with the zinc slide. I did have some feed issues early on, but they seem to be fine now. It also seems to prefer the cheap and cheerful ammo, which is a plus.

Now for the big minus...at approx 2600 rounds the gun quit firing double action. It works fine in SA...I have not attempted to fix it yet (and will not send it in for warranty work, given the track record of the Canadian distributor)...I will post more info when I get an opportunity to delve into the issue.

All in all, it is a good, cheap, accurate firearm. I am still happy with it in spite of the failure.

I have been trying to get my Mosquito to work for about 1k rounds now. It will not work with 10 rounds in the mag unless they are Stingers (on my 4th mag of Stingers I had a case head separation which cut short the shooting). With regular high velocity ammo using the standard spring I get FTE's for the first 4 rounds of the mag. I cleaned it again this weekend and found out that the barrel is loose due to a loose screw, the firing pin block screw is loose again and the screw had loosened on the slide stop. I have tightened them all again and used blue loctite. The gun feels a bit smoother now that the barrel does not move, will try it again this weekend. If it still has FTE's I will cut a coil off the spring and try again. Seeing that it barely cycles 38 grain Federal JHP High Veloctity rounds with the standard spring I would hate to see it with the uprated spring it in. It would just be a single shot. Right now I can not recommend it. My Exesse eats everything and never jams. It is quite frustrating.

Very good point, James. Should we take it that TSE wont be bringing in any Mosquitis for now?

I have ordered some because of demand, I also bring in the P22 for those that just insist on getting a crappy gun. As far as I am concerned as long as you make an informed decision, then all the power to you. I will not however blow smoke and tell people that the SIGARMs product is a SIG quality product.
