hey i was thinking about getting the browning x bolt i was wondering if anyone has one and what the pro and cons are

Handled a few before getting my model 70. Didnt like the plastic mag, the huge chunk of plastic around the mag, the button on the bolt, and the feel of cheap metal in the action, expensive rings.
The things I liked is it was light with the wood stock and would have no problem carrying it all day, easy to shoulder, recoil wan minimal for such a light gun.

I have owned three Stainless Stalkers. Two in 300 WSM and one 375 H&H. I think they are great. One of the 300 WSM's had a bit of a sticky bolt but after a little oil it was pretty much fixed. It almost seems like the by-product of having such a short bolt throw (which I love) is that some of the bolts tend to not be the smoothest. Accuracy, handling, finish, and magazine are all great.
I'm not sure why people can't accept that there are benefits to having a plastic mag. If the company uses a good product they can be more durable than metal ones. The replacements are also a lot cheaper to replace for the X Bolt than any other bolt action rifles that I can think of. Other than maybe a Savage Axis.

All of my family grew up shooting and hunting. My middle daughter had begun to lose interest in shooting/hunting and, after watching her shoot, I felt she was having problems with recoil. So I went out and bought her an X-Bolt in .223. She has become a coyote killing machine and I have seen her whack a running coyote at 175 yards then turn and give me this HUGE grin.
Everyone in the family now wants an X-Bolt after trying her rifle. The only downside to the 223 is she cannot hunt big game with it here in Alberta. I am looking for a 243 in a BAR as I think that should have mild recoil as well and could work for her.
I don't know how well a 6.6 pound rifle might handle recoil in a larger caliber? Or rather, the shooter behind the 6.6 pound rifle....

I absolutely love my X-bolt. Nice weight, comfortable fit and mild recoil ( I shoot a 7mm Rem Mag) The plastic mag that some don't like is far better than the A bolt mag in my opinion.
The top tang safety is my favorite as I can switch from safe to fire without moving my trigger finger or grip. The safety is quiet as well.
If I do my part, the first cold bore shot, is bang on bull every time. With the lite profile barrel, its not a half MOA shooter but it groups better than any hunter really needs at moderate distances.
All that plus the White Gold Medallion is the best looking rifle in moose camp as well

I have one in 308, it is light and handy, I find it very comfortable to shoulder, and surprisingly mild in recoil (good fit plus good factory recoil pad equals easyon the shoulder). Trigger is nice as is, yes the mag is plastic, but I have had zero issues with mine and have heard only good things about their durability. Mag surround is metal, NOT plastic as stated earlier in the thread. I do find that groups open up if I shoot from a hot barrel, so proper cooling time between shots is necessary at the range, but not really a concern in the field. Result of having a teeny little lightweight barrel methinks. Overall very happy. Best fitting rifle I have owned.
all +'s coming from my youngest son, he absolutely loves his X-bolt 7mm-08. I bought a brand new one in left hand, but haven't fired it yet. I've been shooting right hand rifles all my life. It just doesn't feel proper to switch over! I sort of doubt that this old dog could get used to shooting left hand rifles at this late stage. I'm thinking about selling it or trading it off for a Shortrax with the oil finished stock in 7mm-08 or 308.

Got mine last year 30.06 Hunter, very light weight. Nice walnut stock and sweet recoil pad. Love the detachable mag, great for road hunting. Made in Japan by Miroku, and feels better made than a Tikka T3 IMO. I also like it has 4 hole configuration for each scope base. Very crisp trigger too.
