Greetings

So i got my pal last feb ,since havent looked back
Started with a Marlin xt22 bolt and still love it
Then shortly after got a Marlin 795 lotsa fun
Next well as you do got a Russion SKS wow what a party that thing still is
Then well because everyone needs one picked up a Mossberg 88 12 gauge pumper
well that thing almost ripped my arm off but is still fun and with a limbsaver
and a shorter LOP stock will be alot of fun next summer.
So now whats next i guess that first marlin xt still is what i found i fire most reach out there and get precise about things just love it.
So seems next step is to do the same but further and faster so 223
Now im not some rich guy money is no object ,,i realise i must settle for the best that i can afford and that is no problem for me.
So what have i been looking at Savage axis,Mossberg MVP
Stevens 200 and well thats about where i got to
So opinions basically for the most accurate bolt centerfire keeping price in mind
or at least lets place it on a scale ..

Thanks for your advise in advance

Stevens 200 would be my choice from that list.

Have a look at the Equipment Exchange. You can often find some really good deals on there if you're patient and take the time to look. You might end up with a better rifle that still fits your budget.

A Savage Axis will do, but despite liking detachable magazines very much I would prefer a Stevens 200 because I would expect it to last longer and it would be easier to improve later with aftermarket stuff if you become so inclined. Not sure if the Marlin XS7 comes in the calibre you want but from many users' reports it is as good as or better than the Stevens for similar cost. The Mossber MVP hasn't been around long enough to establish a similar reputation but it might also be a contender.

Ideally you want to shoot, or at least handle examples of each and settle on the one that feels best to you as that is the one that you are most likely to shoot to its full potential. It doesn't matter if nine out of ten examples of model x by brand z shoot more accurately than the competition if that design just doesn't fit you so you can't shoot it well.

Take a look at the Winchester model 70's ..... if they fit you nicely, good gun for the $$$$. I have bought most of my rifles used as I find some of the older styles (ie the older 695 Tikka's) fit better, shot better and suited what I wanted for way less coin than new.

The Marlin XS7 or XL7 (short or long action) rifles are the best entry level rifle on the market IMO. All the features of a more expensive rifle in a very slick and accurate package. I would avoid the Axis at any price. Accurate, but cheaply made in comparison.

I second this opinion. I just got a Marlin X7 in .270 Winchester and she rocks. Added a Redfield 3-9x50mm scope and can now take the wings off a fly at 200yrds no problem. Whole set-up ran me about $750 brand-new.

I'm a fan of the savage axis personally. Just do a search on it and see for yourself what owners are saying about it.

The big thing you'll soon realize is that optics, rings, and a solid base are equally as important as the rifle itself. Don't cheap out on these as there's nothing more frustrating than a scope that won't hold zero.

Good luck

My present hunting rifle is a Savage Edge (pre Axis). I want a det mag. odd bolt knob shape but it runs well and the trigger is very suitable after a bit of TLC.

I build alot of my target rifles with Stevens and Savage actions. The stevens trigger is too heavy for me and I want a det mag. Makes a great donor action.

The Savage 11FCNS was my last hunting rig and it worked very nicely. The edge/axis ends up almost a lb lighter.

I just picked up a Ruger American and this might become my new goto plastic fantastic. It is really well put together. Just need to get some time to get some lead down range to confirm how it performs.

Hi.In my opinion i would go with a weatherby vanguard.I have had mine in 7mm mag for 9 yrs and it has performed flawlessly. There is now a vanguard 2 which is supposed to be even better. What ever you choose good luck.

Agree 100%.There is an amazing variety of rifles on the EE,many of them seriously good deals and you are almost certain to find one or more that suits your needs.
