Looking for target scope for rimfire.

I would like to stretch out my .22's legs. I have a cheap scope that functions fine, but the reticle is not what I want. I sighted in at 100y and when I went to shoot at the 200y I found that I needed a large amount of hold over, which is what I expected. However the reticle is more a hunting style and not good for consistent hold over. I would have to guess where to place the target since the scope had no hash marks or anything to use as a reference.

I am looking for a scope, that will be adequate for shots out to maybe 300y. With some sort of BDC or hash marks to aid in hold over, and target turrets would be a great help. Under the $200 mark if possible.

A Similar reticle to this would be what I had in mind.

Wholesale sports has all bushnell 10% off so lots under $200.I just bought the AR 223 3-12 40 for under 200.Has a parallax setting so you can use it on rim fire.They also have a bunch of others with BDC with adjustable parallax. IE trophy xlt 4 12x40.
 
Check-out the Fitco scopes at Futong.com I've purchased and used a bunch of them. I've gotten a couple that were bad right out of the box, which were replaced, no problem. and I had one that eventually died (an 8x32) after a long life (a couple thousand rounds) on my M305 and an '06 Mauser. And one (a 3x9) died on a hunting trip when it (and the rifle it was attached to) fell off my motorcycle doing about 80 down a logging road (sling came unbuckled, totally my stupidity). The nice thing about the Fitco dying was that I had 2 spares in the camper that had been mounted and sighted in, so after a quick confirmation with the bore-sighter, I was back in business.

I also own (and still buy) Bushnells (one is an Elite) and Leupolds. So I'm not addicted to only cheap scopes, I'm just looking for the best bang for my buck.

This is what I put on my CZ455. Price may be more than you want but there is a $100 rebate so it may be a discontinued line.
The instructions gave stats for CCI MiniMags HP and I currently have it sighted in on the 2nd mark at 100 M with solids so that should be close to dead on at 50 yards.
More experimentation is required. Long on solids . . . short on HP's
 
You will want target turrets with plenty of adjustment as most bdc reticals will not help you much for 22lr. Below is an example of what the hash marks would actually represent on my vortex scope. I am sighted in at 44yards and the pic is based on the scope being set to 18x.

and if you sighted in at 100 yards you still could not make even a 200 yard shot with the bottom sight post as a aim point. I would just get a scope with a lot of adjustment range and adjust for longer shots.

The problem with staying under $200 is you MIGHT not get a scope that can be dialed up for elevation/windage and be able to go back to a reasonable zero.

I just went with A Falcon Menace 5.5x20 from a Tasco 6-24 and am hopeful I get more elevation adjustments. My problem was that at 200+ yards I had to dial all the way up with the Tasco and hold over the target right to the bottom of the reticle.

I was thinking Vortex but settled on a used scope.

You might want to look at the Hawke scopes as they may fit you budget and taste. http://w w w.hawkeoptics.com/ (take the spaces out of the w's)
 
SKScanuck has a good point with Hawke scopes. Check out the Hawke Varmint. It has a side focus and comes in 2.5 - 10, 3 - 12, 4 - 16, and 6 - 24 X42 with a nice half mil dot reticle. They are just over $200. They are available at Specialty Shooting Sports in B.C.
 
If you're looking at the Nixon P22 already, consider the Nikon Proataff Target EFR rimfire for about the same price, maybe a few bucks more. You gain a larger 40mm objective and also its adjustable objective. Love mine on my Savage Mark II TR:
