My mother has just recently got her RPAL & she has a major interest in pistol shooting. The only pistol shooting experience she has is my old Glock 17L & as a child over 40 years ago. She's an experienced rifle & shotgun shooter,

We've already looked at more than a few but there's a few contenders but I wanted to know what everyone's opinion is.

Top Contenders
  • CZ P10-C - #1
  • IMI Masada - #2
  • Springfield XDM
  • Beretta APX
  • Remington RP9
  • S&W M&P9
What We've Looked At
  • Glock 19
  • S&W SD9

If anyone would like to make suggestions here's what it needs to have:

  1. Completely ambidextrous as she is left handed
  2. Preferably a compact
  3. Has to be striker fire
  4. Thin grip as she has small hands
  5. 9mm

I would not recommend the RP9 for someone with small hands. I had one and its a big gun. What about the Glock 48? It's single stack and has thin grips. I have not handled one but from the people I've talked to that have them like the thin profile.

I have not had the chance to handle/shoot one yet, but a Walther PPQ M2 ticks most the boxes you want. 9mm, interchangeable back straps to help with grip, ambidextrous, striker fire, excellent triggers (from what i have heard/seen and read), readily available. The only thing is, its not a "compact". Any reason for wanting a compact besides the size?

Can you not go to a rental range and try a bunch out and find one that fits best?

Glock 48 would tick all the boxes. Walther P99 is an excellent choice as well, it's double stack, but has an adjustable grip with 3 back straps.
The trigger on my P99 (now sold)was way better than my Glock 48

Czp10c have great triggers. I really like mine a lot. The xdm is good but the triggers are horrible in my opinion even the aftermarket triggers stink.
A look at the Glock 48 would be a good idea if she has small hands. It’s a great pistol

I have/have had most of the pistols you listed as possibly purchasing, and I’d honestly have to say as someone who suffers from the same condition as your mother (being left handed) the Glock 17/ HK P30 might be the two I’d have a hard look at.

Sounds like you already have a G17 variant, so the HK is the one I’d suggest.

I like the HK. But must admit that a APX is high on my own list.

Has she considered a beretta 92 compact? It is not striker, but had very nice lines.

Also a had you looked at SIG P320?
