Howdy,

Really excited as I await the return of my 870 from the shop, where they try to figure out why it has issues ejecting fired hulls from my 26" tube, but runs flawlessly with the 20" one.

Would like to get into the skeet and trap games, hopefully graduating to duck hunting "later", once I feel confident that I can hit flying targets.

Have about 15 years of shooting experience, starting in the military, apprenticing with both handguns and rifles, currently collect and shoot Lee Enfields, and work in law enforcement where I hope to soon be a basic firearms instructor.... But ain't more than once tried to shoot clays!

Is there anyone in the Vancouver area who would be willing to take a reasonably mature individual with next to no shotgunning experience "under their wing", so to speak, and help me out with the basics?

I would hate to inflict my tyro self on a regular meeting of skeet or trap folks, until I have a basic comprehension of what to do, and would be willing to supply food and beverage to the kind-hearted individual(s) who could help me out?

I am a member at PoCo, with RUC, if that helps at all!

With work, I only have "some" weekends free, as I am stuck on a 4 on / 4 off schedule.

Thanks in advance for reading, and for any of you who are motivated enough to help me out!

Cheers,

Neal

neal, you're welcome to come out and join us at PoCo on sundays.... we're not a bunch of hard core shooters, so we take it easy....

once you've gotten the hang of it, i recommend you get a membership at Pitt Meadow(Sun/Wed), just over the Pitt River bridge, there are some really good guys there thats more than willing to give you a few pointers..........

Nelly, you may want to buy a couple of $30 books by James Russell: Trapshooting Secrets, and Precision Trapshooting. I have found these books to be very helpful as they get into some "theory" about shooting. I have found these books to offer the best advice available and they help you down the learning curve of shotgunning moving targets. You can better judge "free-advice" once you have read his point of view on how to shoot.

I found these books really helped my rifle shooting as I learned how to properly use my eyes and lead animals. He has some information available on the internet.

Here is the link to the Mission Gun Club's shotgun site.

Check it out then come out to the club and talk to Iain our shotgun chair. He is the fellow in the middle of the picture holding the trophy.

We have one of the best shotgun set ups around now with all of the brand new equipment that we have recently acquired as well as we are set up for Sporting Clays shooting...

Tell him Cam sent you

I may be the PERFECT person for you... Oh, wait.. did you say "Mentor" or "mental"? :D

Vancouver gun club has a good trap facility (located in richmond strangely enough) for when you get up to speed. Until then, i'm sure one of the guru's will be happy to help. Do as tootall suggested and post it in the newbs section too.
