Hey.

I'm looking to build a custom 7mm mag rifle. It will be used for hunting but I will probably turn it into a tactical rifle. I was originally looking at a Tika that was going to cost me around a grand, but since the first thing that I was going to buy for it was a MacMillan stock, I might as well get one built and get a rifle that I want right from the start.

My question is where should I start to look and what kind of parts (barrel, action, trigger, housing, stock) should I look at.

Whatever has worked for someone, or more importantly, what hasn't worked is the information I'm looking for.

I want to keep the price around $1600ish, but I plan on saving whatever I have to to get exactly what I want. (When I figure out what I want)

You won't likely be able to build a custom rifle for $1600. You can buy a dandy scoped rifle from any manufacturer for that kind of money though.

x2. I love my tikka but aftermarket parts a lacking. You should look into the remington 700 Police line. They run about 1200 and a busnell 4200 tac will be around 800. The thing with most tactical rifles you will find is they will be chambered in mostly .308, 300 win mag, 300 remington ultra mag, 338 lapua, 338 extreme and so on. So if u are dead set on the 7mm mag it will be hard to find one. Also go the the equipment exchange and look under precision and target rifles. this will give you a good idea of what is common and what it is worth. Hope i helped

I've been talking to a few guys and checking this "intra-web" thing and I'm thinking about a Remington action and looking at a McMillan A5 stock.

I know I said around 1600ish, but I'm flexible. I'm going to have to be patient to get the extra cash, and this price isn't going to include the scope.
