We are moving into a house with more room so my reloading bench gets an upgrade! Im looking to purchase a single stage press. I have a progressive for pistol and 223 loads but most of my rifle is done on a lee single stage. I have a couple benchrest calibers so accuracy is important but i also have a 458 socom and the cases require A LOT of force to size so id like a press that requires the least amount of work for sizing. The ones I've been looking at are

Hornady iron press
Forester co ax
rcbs summit

The only bad thing i read about the co ax is that micrometer top dies can get in the way of the handle. Any experience with any of these presses is appreciated. Also i prime all of my brass by hand.

Thank you

Forster Co-Ax. That being said I don’t believe Forster makes a resizing die for the 458 Socom?

Shouldn`t matter, any brand die in 458 will work (I'm guessing its a regular sized die and not some monstrosity like a 50 cal). Ideally you should use the Forster lock rings as they fit perfectly in the press

I have a Forster and am very happy with it.

My 458 die is a standard sized hornady die. I think with the forester rings it would be good to go. It seems like the coax is out of stock everywhere though. May have to backorder

That should work just fine then

If it helps I picked up my Co-Ax from Jerry at Mystic Precision.

Forster does offer a handle for more clearance. If your reloading 338lapua or larger with micrometer seater youll likely run into some issues. My friend has an older bonanza coax and he had clearance issues with the 338. I haven't had the opportunity to test on my newer Forster coax.

You could always give them a call. Their customer service is second to none

i can't see myself reloading anything big in the near future, never seem to keep the 338s long. Thank you for the input!

I have 2 CO-AX presses. One is an older unit, and is an original Forster.
The other is relatively new [3 years], and has the extended yoke.
The older press handle/yoke will not clear some taller dies, whereas the
new one clears any dies I have, even the micrometer types.
I believe the CO-AX is the finest single stage press available today.
Proper rings on your dies complete the package. Dave.

Eagleye

Don't take this personally, but I'm still using the same RCBS Rockhucker press I bought in 1973.

And I actually thought I liked you until you said you have two Co-Ax presses.:bangHead:

Truth be known, I still have an older RCBS Rockchucker press on my loading bench as well. And I do use it at times.
They are a good, solid unit that will work just fine. However, I despise the spent primer handling system. Dave.

Co-ax is my vote. FWIW I use forster micrometer dies and it clears the regular yoke/handle easily. I’ve been told the current version already has increased clearance vs older models.
