I am looking to buy my first pistol and I have narrowed it down to 3 different types.

1. Sig P226 with rail
2. CZ SP-01
3. Ruger P95

Can someone tell me what some of the pros and cons of each model might be or which one is the best choice. I know there is a price factor where the Sig is well over $1000.

Thanks

If I were you I would consider an almost new Browning hi-Power MkIII with professionally installed Novak lo-mount sights.;)

I'm sure if you looked hard enough in the exchange forum you would come up with something.

My mistake I meant to type P85 not P95. Thanks for the ideas so far but I am not fond of the Browning from personal experiances with them in the CF.

My Sig P226ST with rail is sitting besides me as I type. It is a beautiful gun, but not cheap. I sense from your post that you are just getting started in pistol shooting. If your budget is hurting I suggest looking around for a Certified Pre-Owned Sig (around $799) a CZ or even the Norc CZ/1911 clones. You will be happy with any of them. I personally find the Ruger semi-auto’s clunky looking and hear 2nd hand that they are not as well built as their revolver models and Ruger is not the best for product support, although I freely admit that I have no first-hand experience with them.

A BHP is also very nice, if you don't mind single-action

I just found out why you suggested that particular type of gun...nice try can't blame you for trying.

Snake Eyez,
Not to resuscitate a "dead horse" - because this subject comes up periodically. BUT, each of these pistols have their merits. However, merits mean nothing if it does not fit in your hand, or you can see the sights. The best advice that I could give you is try to find someone at your range/club who has the models that you are interested in (or other models for that matter) and try as many as you can. When you find something that works for you then buy it.
If that fails of the three that you have suggested - my personal preference would be the CZ SP01 - because I likethe way it handles. Heavier, steel frame, less recoil, good grip andsight picture. I only wish that it would come in a 40 rather than the 9mm. CZ forum can give you all kinds of insight.

I had a friend, years ago that won a Ruger P85 at a SOF match in Vegas. His comment to me was that it didn't even make a decent boat anchor! I used a Browning for 6 years in IPSC competition and my commercial Browning was nothing like the 9mm I was issued in the Forces.

Sticking with your choices I'd pick the P226 hands down, it'll cost you more but you'll never regret it. Buy it new and you'll likely never need to buy anything else.

I started with a Ruger p-89 (stainless p-85)and I can honestly say it was a good gun for the money at the time but it's certainly not a competition gun,it's clunky and the mag release is awkward, but it did shoot well,I have also shot the sig 226 it's a very well built and handling gun,but I love my cz spo1 and my cz75 (I'm sure that I would love a sig if I had one too).

Thanks a bunch this is starting to help keep it coming. I think I am willing to pay full for a new p226 crimson trace but it will take a while to save and to find one. The local gun shop told me this weekend it could take 5 months to get one. I think I will just go to buffalo gun center and get Questar to import it for me.
