Hello fellow gun nuts

I am looking to buy my first AR in 9mm. I'm not really familiar with ar-15's. I'm more of a handgun shooter. I need a 9mm so I can shoot it at my indoor range.

I am not a glock guy so something that takes glock mags doest really help me.

I would like something with a; quad rail system, tacticool mags and I would like something that the bolt locks back after the last round. Also something that can take a 10 round mag.

Not really interested in JR carbines. I was thinking more along the lines of RRA products. Or if you have any suggestions I would love to hear about them

Thank you

Rick

Just buy a readily available RRA ( Colt pattern 9mm ) from vendor like Questars

Remove the hand guard and put on whatever you want. The gas block on the RRA is there just to hold the CAR style fore end on . You can leave gas block on and put a non free float quad rail like the Surefire M79 which is what I did. No need for FF on a 10.5" 9mm

You need to decided if you want dedicated 9mm lower or not

If you do , then just buy the RRA dedicated and assembly your self

https://shopquestar.com/shopping65/shopexd.asp?id=1002&bc=no

IF not, then you will have to find and buy a mag block. The Hahn blocks are the best 9mm mag block followed by the Spikes /RRA and CMMG . Easier to find a Spikes and RRA in Canada.

The bolt hold back is a function of magazine. A Colt pattern magazine will hold back with most mag blocks , but will not with a modified Uzi magazine

If you plan to build an upper that you may eventually want a match style trigger ( Geissele , RRA NM , CMC etc ) best to have your bolt ramped . Not only is it easier on your hammer pin , it will prevent the gun from locking up solid ( you will have to remove the takedown and pivot pin to get it apart ) if you run the RRA upper on a lower with match trigger or ( any FCG with hooked hammer )

If you don't care about the trigger then just assembly with a standard LPK and a RRA 9mm hammer . Not worth your time grinding the std hammer to remover notch

You will have to run heavier buffer like the RRA 9mm ( about 5.6oz ) or if you can't find that get a H3 buffer or Spikes 9mm buffer

Hello TRG-42

Thanks for the rundown.
If I order a RRA upper and dedicated lower. Does RRA make a 10 round mag for the gun. I know they make 10 round LAR mags in 223 rem. But I have seen no information on 10 rounds 9mm mags. Every modified Uzi mag I have see have been 5/32 mags. If not I'm probably better off with a lone wolf lower and run glock mags (even tho I'm not a glock fan).

But I defiantly want my AR to look taticool and a Lil 10 round mags looks kinda funny to me. Not the look I'm going for.

Is there any other brands besides RRA or Colt (which I'm sure is hard to find and costs a pretty penny) that make a high quality 9mm AR.

Or do you think I'm better off buying a 223 lower and then building a 9mm.

I have no experience with ARs and don't know how comfortable I am "grinding down parts"

I'm kind of a gun snob and hate a P.O.S. firearm. I don't mind ponying up the doe for something that I will keep forever.

There were some LAR 10rd Pro Mag polymer magazines but don't know if you can still get them. They work fine . The 10rd C Products are super short but work fine

The other 9mm platform is the Olympic Arms that does not interchange any parts with the Colt pattern and uses the goofy modified sten magazines or standard sten mags with the Hahn Precision mag block. I had one years ago and I think the Colt pattern is the way to go

You need to decided if you want to use the lower for other uppers. If not, then the Lone wolf is a good choice other than it does not hold bolt open on last round , and also requires modification , which any machine shop can do for you

As far as std AR lower you need to decide if you will every use it for anything else. If the answer is yes, just get a std AR lower and get your bolt ramped so you don't have to mess with 9mm hammer . This way you can upgrade trigger and not have to worry about hammer capabilities .

After some consideration I think I'm going to go with the Beretta CX storm. I've always wanted an AR rifle but the Beretta seems to be a better fit for me.

Non-restricted (pay and play)
Uses 92 fs mags (good excuse to buy another handgun)
Simple to take apart
Felt very solid and compact

My AR dream will just have to wait until I join a rifle range

I thank you all for your help

Rick
