I am looking at buying my first shotgun to use mainly for trap and waterfowl. Thinking a 3", 12 gauge is what I need.
I am on a pretty tight budget and don't really know where to look other than the big box stores like sail, cabela's and BPS.
I've been reading alot online about new remington 870 express vs old wingmasters vs mossberg 500s with most people speaking very highly about finding an old wingmaster but I have no clue where to track one down?
BPS currently has the rem 870 express on sale for $289...is it worth it?
Lately I've discovered the winchester sxp and really like the looks of it as well as the price it is being sold at sail is affordable.
Does anyone own one and have any opinions they could offer? or should I look for something else?
Thanks

Just bought my fist Shotgun, a Browning Citori, from right here off the Equipment Exchange. It was easy, fast and I spent considerably less than I would have at a retailer. Why buy a new Shotgun when most are so rugged?

Here`s my little ol mother posing with it, lol, she looks skerd.

thats great...no one should mess with your mom
why did you choose O/U vs pumpaction for a first shotgun if I may ask?

I suppose I could say reliability, two different patterns on a single engagement and the aesthetics of it, the clean lines have always been appealing to me, also as my grandfather used to say, If you need more than two to hit it you might want to consider a different game. But hey man, It is all really up to what you prefer, some guys love the pump, others would never give up their semi, no one is wrong.

im in the same boat as OP. i have decided to get a mossy 500. now to just find one in wood furniture. :)

code white, where are you from? that would help with suggesting places other than just the big box stores.

Still waiting on approval for the EE, are there quality guns for fair prices on there?

I'm sure there'd be someone to tell you otherwise but I have used it a couple of times now and got a great deal each time, the selection is very good and I only invest in quality pieces but like any place you get a gun there will always be some lemons and some sour people willing to pawn them off on someone. Just be sure to buy from people with a good rating and at least for me, I try and do the deal in person so I can handle the item before handing over the green. That hasn't stopped me from doing a shipping deal though. Most of the people here are good dudes anyway soo I would move ahead with confidence in regards to the EE. Just be sure to read the stickys before you begin.

I have the mossberg 500 that I got with a 3 barrel combo for 560 bucks. You get a 28" goose barrel a 24" turkey barrel with turkey choke and a rifled slug barrel with a picatinny rail. First and best gun I ever bought to date. Good luck!

You will not have a problem finding a good pump gun on EE. Lots of 870s.
I always compare prices to LeBaron. They seem to have the lowest prices on all firearms, BasPro or SAIL don't even come close. Plus LeBaron gives you 10% off on all your purchases if you buy their membership which is only $20. It would save you money on the first purchase for sure.
