I was looking at the Norc as a starting point but found the US made DPMS Panther Oracle A3. Anyone have experience with this gun? Looks to be good value for the $$$ and Frontier has them with 4 Magpul magazines priced at $849. Any opinions welcome.
 
My Norinco 10.5 hasn't failed me yet in 790 rounds!

it was my first AR now I'm building my own. Well kind of, waiting for parts to go on sale
 
You can't really go wrong with the norc or dpms for a beginner ar. If you do more research and save longer you can get the rifle you might be happier with for a longer time. Buy once cry once
 
i plan on selling my Norinco 10.5
actually not sure if i want to even continue my custom build. I tend to get bored easily.

BTW i have cleaned my Norinco twice.

Once when i bought it brand new and once at 500 rounds.
 
So what separates a beginner AR from an AR for more experienced shooters? I have done a lot of research as I too am interested in purchasing my first soon as well. Now I can pretty much deduce the differences in aesthetics, build quality And QC, but beyond that?? (I realize I may have answered my own question) is it price that makes that separation?

For the sake of the internets I will disclose that I'm asking a serious question and not being a smart arse!
 
I'm actually already looking at the next level AR's. The SR556 looks like a solid gun. I actually just came from my club and got to handle a higher model DPMS and the Ruger. I was quite impressed with the Ruger @$1300
 
Have you guys looked at the LMSR (Light Modern Sporting Rifles) going out there now? All American made polymer lowered AR that is 1 in 7 twist and choice of configurations from $799 (some are at $750) to $975. I have one that is over 5000 rounds and looks perfect. A cop buddy has one in 10.5" and keeps sending me videos of him emptying mags and cackling like a mad (very happy though) man. He tells me he is over 3000 on it without issue and he isn't exactly using premium ammo. If Glock can do it with a pistol, I'm sure its gold with an AR The $975 gun features an upper half that is the exact same unit High Standard sells on their $1300 guns, the lower priced guns have HeadDown products upper halves Melonited in and out. (All are 1 in 7 and .223/5.56 compatible.)

No offence, but that's not saying much. I would like to see how it's doing after 15,000-20,000 rounds have been shot through it.
I always see guys on here saying " I've got ### rounds through mine without a single issue". I don't think the quality of a firearms can be judged by how it dose within the first 1000 rounds.
I've bad my Tavor for about 2 months and I already have 1000+ rounds through it. To some people thats peanuts in comparison to what they shoot.

1- Gov't profile
2- Chrome lined chamber and bore
3- 5.56 NATO chamber
4- 1/7 twist
5- Parkerizing under front sight base
6- M4 feed ramps
7- Magnetic particle tested

I went for gas as proponents of the gas piston system for the AR-15 claim it is more reliable than the direct impingement system, (which seems rather ironic since the gas piston system not only adds more parts to the overall system, but adds more moving parts as well.)

Opponents of the gas piston system state the AR-15 does not have reliability issues as long as proper cleaning and maintenance procedures are followed.

I enjoy cleaning my guns so gas it's was

Yyzkfaz, I was looking at that exact rifle and was wondering how you like it? Did you have any QC issues out of the box? Is it worth spending the $2K for a 1st AR (it'll be my 1st AR, similar to the OP) or would something more cost effective be worth it?

I agree with you totally. I've seen some norcs after 1000 rds start to rattle loose like a SOB. And before you know it's up for sale and now there looking for a real quality AR

Totally agree with you. It's only on its first legs. Got to see how it does after!

Love my Core15 M4

No quality issues. I got a carry handle iron sights and it works for me.
And as you stared I could not justify spending $2000 for a rifle to shot targets. It's not a duty rifle
And my life does not depend on it going bang after I have crawled thru mud/sand.

I'm looking for a AR upper to complete my first build, anyone know of any good deals out now or anyone selling one? I'm planing on buying cheaper now to get myself going and upgrade along the way as I figure out what I like to do.
