Hi all,

I am looking to buy my first AR, however I don't have a lot of money to spend. I have obviously looked at the norc AR and a few others such as the Core15's.

Is there anything in the 700-999 dollar price range that would be worth looking at?

Thanks

build your own. dlask has lowers and part kits are not that expensive. uppers can get pricey depending on what parts you think you "need". bare bone i dont think you would be much over 1000. if you were on the east coast i could put it together for you.

Yes okay yes. The thing I like about the cq is that it's mil spec and ambi. Any ar mag will fit.I have a ten rounder and works grate. Some people have had problems with there's but I never have had one problem. Your best bet is to buy one used then u know from the owner that it works.I don't trust new guns cuz you never know what u r getting.that gos with any gun really. Check out the norinco pic thread in this forum I have a pic of my two on there.

Is the CQ reliable? And is it well made? Also is there 10 round pistol mags available for it?

Yes, it's reliable. However, it isn't as well-finished as some of the higher-priced AR's out there.

10 rnd pistol mags that are made for an AR wil fit any AR (as long as the calibre is .223 or 5.56x45).

I know Smith & Wesson has the M&P 15 Sport that sells MSRP $775 in the States, but I don't know if they're being sold up here yet.

IMO the Norc is a good learning platform for your first AR and the price is within your budget. Later on, you can upgrade to a higher-priced AR should you so desire.

Norc M4, search & you will see LOTS of guys ask the same question & what I can tell you is the two we have WORK!

Cheers
Jay

hmm interesting. I have also looked at:

The SU-16 (not really an AR, but its cheap and non restricted, and can be converted to "tactical looking")

and also the M&P 15 SPORT, however I haven't seen this gun anywhere up in canada yet.

I checked out the norc, the finish on them is pretty bad. I may just have to shell out a few extra hundred and get a Core 15...

Whats the best choice in the 900-1200 price range?

You are kind of pushing the low end of the price point with ARs, not that it is a bad thing, but it does limit your options. Main difference will be fit and finish, that is unless you want to get into reliability beyond a range setting.

At 900-1200 you are pretty much looking at a Core-15 or an NEA.

how is the Core 15 quality wise in comparison to the Norc?

Vancouvergunnut, did you look at a Norc in person?. When it's all kitted up and I'm shooting it I don't pay much attention to how the receiver looks like underneath all of the stuff you can add to the package. The labeling is ugly, I'll say that, but the anodizing surface is all right. And after a few hundred rounds you're going to put wear marks into any sports car finish.

for the price point norc is the way to go , had issues with mine but it was the sharp edges on my lar mags (fixed ) runs great. feed it lots of ammo , beat it up , and im sure it will grow into more ar's (they seem to multiply in the safe when dark...)

Lol I just have a hard time justifying spending 1200+ on a rifle im just gonna use for fun.

I mean I love guns as much as you guys, but I'm far from rich. I mean I could definitely save up for a more expensive AR..

How do you guys justify it LOL? Just say Fu** it and buy one?? haha
