ok folks, im a newbie and i know so go easy.

Im in the market for a shotgun, due to my slim student budget i need an all round useful gun.

I need something that is proficient for skeeting, and your general shenanigans one gets up to out in the bush. i havent yet, but i am also interested in the possibility of duck hunting and the like. And on a side note, i will be planning on shooting a variety of rounds, if that wasnt obvious from the previous statement.

obviously i have heard the REM 870 is the go to. though my only experience with one is summed up by trying to explain to him that it was coincidence that his extractor broke on his 870 while it was in my hands.... it was under warrenty, but still, didnt leave a good taste in either of our mouths. he has since moved onto a Winchester sxp i believe.

what i have kind of narrowed it down too:

the Mossberg 500, specifically the combo from wholesale sports. includes a 18.5" and 28" barrel for $350.

and i ran into this beauty on TEC, couldnt really find any reviews on it though.

thoughts on either... $350 is sitting nicely at the upper bound of my budget....i know its not much, but i already picked up a model '81 BLR early this year.
thanks guys!

I was given a new 870 wing master in 1981. It was my go to gun for the next 25 years. Mostly waterfowl but other stuff as well. Not once has it failed. Well made and bullet proof. I'd find and buy a good used Wingmaster. BTW I have about 20 other shotguns so its not like I have little to compare it too, doubles, pumps, semis, Brownings, Winchesters, etc.

I would say the mossberg 500 as it comes with the barrels for both occasions
you might wanna look into a maverick 88 real cheap
my first shotgun kicks like a mule though with 3inch slugs but limbsaver on order

I have other shotguns, but I love my Mossy 500 - ol' reliable - I have 3 barrels for it - 28", 24" with fibre optic sights, and 24" rifled slug, the smooth barrels with accu-choke - it will do almost everything you could ask from an all-round gun. If I could only have one shotgun, that one would be it.

Ya i think im leaning towards the moss 500. My brother has the maverick 88. and for the price its a great gun. i think he snagged it new for 200 at a gun show. but you can feel the cheapness of it.

sk8r, have you shot a maverick 88 along side your moss 500? does it have that same feel? or is it more sturdy and robust feeling?

I understand tactical is probably not the best choice for me right now. but have any of you heard of that Khan arms shotgun i posted? any of you ever shot one? what would be your best guess in how it feels? similar to the moss 500? or possibly more similar to the mav 88?

I have only ever fired 3 rounds from an 88...and that was enough - the thing kicked like a rented mule & I didn't like the 'feel' of it at all. Based on that very brief experience, I wouldn't trade my Mossy for three Mavericks...

My first was a Winchester 1300, it'd be called the speed pump now. I love it. I use it for skeet, trap, and have used it for turkey, deer and general shooting. I do have an 870 turkey/predator and love it as well but would never pass up my 1300. Very reliable and fits me great.

would like some info on the khan arms shotgun as well... came across it and hard to find info. I emailed them and asked about the pistol grip for it as well as thats the one i want
