before you spend a cent, go to the SASS website and download the shooters manual www. SASSnet.com. There are a complete list of the requirements in the manual for the various categories. While most clubs don't shoot SASS sanctioned matches, they pay lip service to the safety guidelines and categories.

Mimimum you are going to require are 2x single action revolvers, 1x pistol caliber lever action carbine and a pre 1897 designed shotgun.

I am sure it was a typo but you can use the Winchester Mod. 97 pump gun with the exposed hammer. Ruger revolvers are very popular in .38 Sp/357Mag with Marlin, Uberti Winchester, Rossi leverguns. Make sure the magazine will hold ten shots. Like Garand says check out the SASS web site and then wear your cowboy boots and hat to a club funshoot where you can ask questions and watch.

Your winchester 94 is the longer action, you need a pistol caliber carbine or rifle, a Model 92 winchester or copy, a marlin 1895 or one of the clones of the 1866 or 1873 lever guns. Also you should get one more pistol and a shotgun. SxS coachgun or an 1897 pump or clone.

Also I suggest looking at this site.

Well, for starters, you will need one more revolver. Try to get one of a matching caliber, this goes double for the rifle, it is just easier to load and feed them.

They have to be "era/period" correct, as was already mentioned. All loads are to be lead and the pistol under 900 fps.

The shotgun is either double barrel s/s or Win '97 pump, but has to be fed by hand after first shot. The s/s cannot have ejectors (throws the shells). The coach gun is ok, but there are plenty of other cheap shotguns for that purpose. I use the really light target loads in that one.

Last, but not least, you will need to buy the leathers and develop some sort of costuming "look", because really, it is half the fun and if you do not, then you will stick out like a sore thumb.

Practice with your irons because it is harder than it looks, but it is also as fun!
