Hi fellow GunNutzs,

I’m looking to join a gun club near my area (Whitby, ON), I heard of a few clubs like Oshawa Skeet and gun club, Orono gun club and Port Perry Rod & Gun Club. I have actually tried the Port Perry Rod & Gun Club “thanks to Colin” which it was very nice but they are not looking for new members at the moment.

If any gun enthusiast could show me around or give me some advise I would greatly appreciate.

Matt

Target Sports Canada is in Stouffville. They are open to the public are provide use of their guns when selling ammunition, so it may or may not be a sh1tshow with respect to other users.

I have tried their range before but the problems are it's very expensive and you need a buddy every time you go. None of my friends are into that sport

I don't know what the cost is, but as I understand it, members don't have to have a buddy, but walk-ins do. The idea is to sell twice as much ammo since they have to babysit walk-ins.

Orono Fish and Hunt. I am in Whitby too. Very reasonable membership fee, only open Sundays and Wednesdays though, but that could change in the future with the new sound control initiatives. Great people there too.

I have contacted the club and I was told they were only accepting new members with a referral from current member in good standing. Are you currently a member? Are you looking for a range buddy?

I'd like to get in on this thread. I've recently sent in my paperwork for my RPAL/PAL so it'd be nice to meet some local shooters. I've heard the same about most local clubs, that they're not looking for new members, so I'm starting to get worried about how long it's going to take to find a club and get my ATT for restricted.

target sports allows licenced individuals to purchace a day pass and can shoot solo with your firearms. you can even bring a non licenced guest, if you supervize them.
if you want to shoot their firearms you need a buddy and must purchace thier ammo.
also have you tried the marksman club in Courtice?

Hi All,

Recently joined The Marksmen Club and have nothing but good things to say. I would certainly recommend this club. Everyone I've met there is super friendly and 24/7 certainly helps! I don't think this attitude is club specific but more sport specific as pretty much all my interactions with people in the hobby (gun shop employees, instructors, forum members etc.) has been great! I've shot a few times at Target but have heard that the membership fees are on the high side and its quite busy on the weekends, but the facility is nice and the ability to test different guns and calibers is a huge plus. I also luv the fact that they have a shop there, although this may be a bad thing - as I'm always tempted to buy a new toy! ;)

shoot safe all,
ceezed

Hey Maverick,

I'm just wondering how your search for gun clubs/access to ranges was going?

Though I'm currently overseas, I'll be back in Whitby this summer for vacation, and I'd like to get some time on a range.

I'm NRA & tactical certified [my Profile lists my security company's homepage for details], but since I'm out of country most of the time, I haven't yet done the CFSC/CRFSC. Even if I were to, the PAL process and waiting period means a couple of months and by then I'll be off again.

As long as the timing works out, I still will try to do the course and start the PAL process so I have it for the next time, but I imagine it is best to try to attend as a guest / open house / etc. I checked out Target but some of the comments online say it is hard to walk-in and reservations are equally tough.

So I was wondering if you'd found some shooting buddies or gun clubs?

Thanks

I live in the Durham region and just recently passed my pal/rpal exams. I've looked online and it seems like all the clubs are not accepting members. Does anyone know a club that is accepting members close to me? It seems very difficult to get signed up to a club in Ontario and any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
P

I'm interested in this thread as well. Anybody aware of any clubs with centre fire rifle ranges? These days I am heading all the way down to Silverdale and its a long trip.

Oshawa just opened up additional membership spots on April 1, 2013. Non restricted firearms for the first year only. They wont allow you to take their restricted qualifications course for the first year but will be able to shoot any non restricted stuff. This what i was told last weekend as my buddy dropped of his application. Spots are limited and the application stack was getting up there. It doesnt hurt to try. Good luck.

Oh ya the clubs in Durham fill up as soon as they have spots open.take the time to blink and you're chance is gone I'm having the same problem so any one looking for new shooting buddies let me know ?
