So my RPAL is in the mail, and and my friend are looking for a club to join.
Where would be a good place to start looking?
Is there any listing of all ranges, pricing, services offered, etc..?
If your looking for a great club with all hours of the day access and a large variety of ranges... Check this link out. It would be a bit of a trek for you but its well worth it! Great people & atmosphere!!
Driving? There's a range on Royal York, North of the Queensway, that has a different club shooting every week night. It's in an old police station's basement. Pick the night you're both available and drop in. Not all clubs are seeking new members though.
There's also a range at the foot of Dixie Rd. In behind Dan Foss, I think it's called. Lakeshore Arms Academy is the name of the range operators. This is the only contact info. b.simmons@sympatico.ca
There's Burlington too. Bit of a hike. http://www.rangeburlington.ca/
"...Most ranges have websites..." It's not the range you join. It's a club. A lot of clubs don't have sites. Cdnshootingsports doesn't have a lot of clubs listed.
Here are some helpful tips when considering joining a club.
- Ask when their next CFO inspection is, every 2 - 3 years. Also ask if all CFO required improvements/fixes have been addressed and ready for the next CFO visit/inpsection.
-Don't put any money down until the day you do your safely course. I have heard of some people who paid for a safety course and other fees and waited and waited and waited for a safety course to become available and NOTHING to the point the joiner walked away to join another club and could not get a refund on the money paid.
- If looking into a indoor range... check out the ventilation system. Yes all seems good with one or two shooters but the true test comes when it's a full house and some are shooting lead reloads (smokey as heck). Nothing is worst then blowing your nose after an evening of shooting and eveything that comes out is black.
- Membership fee is that and only that at some clubs, then comes other fees on top of that so double check the final annual cost.
- Ask the club about the current relationship with near by neighbours. Poke around and listen for "rumours" about neighbours wanting the club closed.
