looking to my first black gun

1. OP didn't stipulate taking AR mags was a requirement (unless I missed it).

2. I've owned both a CZ 858 and a CSA .223 rifle, and quality for both of them is comparable. The only issues I've seen is the gas piston breaking on the Compact CSA's (haven't seen it pop up as an issue with the Carbine or full sized rifles).

1. Isn't the whole point of this thread to discuss the pros and cons of different non-restricted 'black" rifle alternatives?

2. VZ.58s in the original 7.62 have seen fairly extensive service, whereas the 5.56 version has been designed for the commercial market. It may well be that the 5.56 version is also very reliable, but without any hard data, I would expect that the closest thing to the original, military configuration to be the safer bet.

Certainly, the 5.56 version of the Vz.58 is one option, but I think it best to have all pertinent information on the table.

Well I’m looking for a rifle that I can take out to the bush without worrying about the fuzz and whether or not some do-gooder will get his or her britches in a bunch. Seems where I live there are several people who would rather have all fire arms disappear rather than embracing them as we nut jobs do for the sheer enjoyment of them, so if I can get something that’s NR they can’t say a thing about it. And I also want something I can hunt Coyotes and gophers with in the annual spring ammo fling in Alberta.
So far my short list is between the Tavor, Swiss arms and the XCR. From what ive seen from the examples here on the forum they all have a good aftermarket to select goodies from as well as a good reputation for being solid platforms to shoot no matter what you use them for.
Who knows I might even get into some sort of tactical discipline to compete in later. Wait who am I kidding that’s exactly what I want to do. LOL

I keep hearing of an m4 clone that's .NR but can't seem to find it for the life of me.

I heard of that as well a year or two ago a dealer was telling me of an .223 NR AR that a guy once brought in. costed him like 4K or something ridicules. and that was the last time I ever heard of that from someone with far more knowledge then me. I always wondered where to find it. Maybe its just an urban legend.

If you live around these kinds of people, it doesn't matter what you have; they don't want you to have them. And yes they will still say something about it NR or not.

They don't want you to have ANYTHING.

So just get what you really want and enjoy!
