Yes get the Hornady Cartridge Case Headspace gauge, this single case gauge will measure all your fired and resized cases , it will be cheaper than buying a case gauge for every caliber you have and be more accurate.
Lock-N-Load® Headspace Kit With Body 1 Each

"NO" do not get this gauge, as long as you have a set of vernier calipers and use a modified case to just hold a bullet you will be able to find the lands and adjust your seating depth. This is the old way and it still works today and you are going to be adjusting the seating depth to find the "sweet spot" anyway.

If your rich and famous and own shares in Canadian tar sand then buy both of them, BUT many many people have problems with this gauge, they pull out their hair and go back to the old way.

Henry has a very good reputation, though I haven't dealt with him yet.

Jerry at Mystic Precision (also a board sponsor) also carries this stuff, and I've dealt with him happily on two occasions.

ETA: I disagree with bigedp51 and Mirimachier; I have and use these tools, and find them more consistent than the old 'smoke the bullet' method (or those like it.)

I do recommend the curved gauge over the straight one, however.

A little internet searching and the ordering of a less-popular thread tap, and you can make your own modified cases as well.

I have tried, and never found the need to smoke a bullet. I place a bullet into the chamber which I then feel quite easily when it hits the lands, and measure that bullet to the tip. Then I measure to the bolt face. The difference is oal which I load that exact same bullet into a casing then measure that round to the ogive. I then mark that round and save it for that lot of bullets.

Easy as pie.

What issues have people had with the OAL gauge? I recently purchased one and found it fairly easy to use and I obtained repeatable results. Maybe I'm lucky or something.
