hey guys i am looking for a good bullet that will be good for target and hunting at around 150-160gr.Still doing load dev for my m14 and looking for more things to try.

Hornady interlock 165g bullets worked alright for me. I found the most accurate loads had to be hot, with a slower burning powder than was needed to cycle the action properly (RL15) and the proper powders were not really that accurate. I'm going to test next with H4895 and IMR4064 to see if I can get a 1.5 inch group, perfect cycling, and 2600+ fps

Hornady 168 gr. A-Max works great for me as an all around hunting load. Might even get a Moose with it one day. Need to find one first :) Dont worry about the relatively small load for bigger game, it packs a real big punch. It is after all a 308 YES!!!!!!!

yeah right now i am useing barnes tsx with 41grains of imr 4895 and that got me a 3.303" group at 100 yards but at 200 opened up way to much. That and the store i buy those bullets at its 49 bucks for 50 so i am trying to also look for more bulk but cheaper so i ant getting killed on supplys

Yeah 3.3 inch group at 100 yards with a scoped rifle is like the worst possible accuracy you should be hunting with. You can make a 3.5 inch group with the iron sights, so it's almost pointless to have the scope on. Try some interlocks, they're cheap and they've worked for me. The other one that people say work well are PRVI bullets. They're just cup and core, so you're looking at probably 60% retention out of a 2700fps round, but whatever it'll be dead animals.

the 3inch group could of been me i was at a shoot and at a double table and it was not the most steady thing.Evertime the person next to me would move or shoot made for a very use steady thing.

Correct the Hornady A-MAX is a Match grade but, I have not seen any recommendations not to use as a hunting load. At 168gr. it will take down just about any North American game and being a Match load you get more accuracy at further distances. Just my 2 cents.
The price is comparable to any good quality load that should be used for hunting. Not a target load, you only need one in the kill zone anyway :)

I'm not saying they can't be used for hunting,( I know lots of people do) I'm just saying Hornady does'nt reccomend them- maybe they don't test for expansion or something.

Cant figure out why Hornady does not recommend these loads for hunting. On the same site one guy has this comment which is somewhat contradictory. Maybe they are concerned that the bullet will end up in the next county when used for hunting???

"Over the last few years I have been shootin more and more of the AMAX bullets. Mostly at my gun club for target shooting. They give me superb accuracy, and I do mean superb!!!! Even over the Nosler and Berger bullets that I have shot. I recently purchased a rifle in 300 SAUM. Thought what the heck. Worked up a load with the 168 AMAX and the first day at the range with a moderate load of H4895 was able to shoot a few groups of under 1/2 inch at 100 and 200 yards. My first shot at a hog with an AMAX out of the 300 SAUM was spectacular. Hit in the neck at 258 yards and there was only a little piece of fur holding the body together at that point. Good terminal performance. Could not get the kind of grouping with a Nosler 165. Keep up the good work guys. Love your stuff,
Mark Swab"
