They were there for over an hour, passed em and took pics on my way to the shooting range and passed them again on my way home.... Come hunting season tho you'd be surprised how easy it is for 50-75 mature elk to dissapear into an acre of 5' tall willows hahaha

They are awsome to spot out in the open, dosent happen every day but the odds swing heavy to my favour from febuary to May every year it seem's...
To be honest... I'd trade 50 elk for 5000 gophers tho

I bet they are very grateful to find grazing that is not covered with snow, and in their condition those pregnant cows need all the food they can get at this time of year. Nice to see.
They're always like that this time of year through the spring. Seems as though getting a full belly is of more importance than staying hidden.
You'd have to have a horse shoe stuck you know where and be at the perfect place at the perfect time on the perfect year to see that here in manitoba now. It's depressing how little elk there are. I'm 23, and live right on the east side of riding mountain national park and my dad tells me stories of how you'd see herds of a 100 elk running across fields during hunting season. Now I'm lucky to see a herd of 5 up on our land along the park during elk season. Most times might see 2. I went almost every day from the middle of November till the middle of January and didn't see an elk. Lots of them got murdered 10 or so years ago for TB testing and haven't recovered. Not to mention there's more timber wolves than elk. I spend most of my elk season, hunting wolves instead. For every one wolf your saving a boat load of deer and elk. Hopefully by the time my boy is old enough to go out hunting the elk numbers will have climbed up a bit so he can enjoy the feeling of hearing a monster bull bugling off in the distance.
