Looks like Tom Bostic is working on an SL8 to XM8 Conversion!

"The XM8 Project is a furniture kit to transform your H&K SL8 into what looks like the Elusive XM8.

This is still in the project phase and hopefully will not suffer the same fate as the real XM8. The kit will consist of an XM8 style Mid length Handgaurd, lower with grip, adjustable Stock and carry handle optics rail. This kit is designed with virtually no modifications needed to install and will count as 4 of the 5 required 922R compliance parts. Although we do have a working prototype, there is still a bit of work that needs to be completed.

This project is in no way affiliated with H&K or the US ARMY. These prototype pictures were taken side by side with the real XM8’s and the rifle was an unmodified SL8. There are several cosmetic changes on the latest version already in the works. At this time I have no information on cost or time frame."

Damn you Tom Clancy.... More $ slated to be spent. I need to keep it in my pants or I'll never be able to afford it.

Cool looking gun, and clone. I had to google it...

The XM8 was the U.S. military designation for a lightweight assault rifle system under development by the United States Army from the late 1990s to early 2000s. The rifle was designed by German small arms manufacturer Heckler & Koch (H&K), and shares design and engineering with their G36 rifle.

The XM8 design was originally part of the Objective Individual Combat Weapon program (OICW), which was developing a "smart" grenade launcher system with an underslung carbine rifle as a backup weapon. The system was unable to meet performance and weight requirements and was eventually canceled. In the aftermath, the two portions of the OICW were separated, resulting in the XM8 and XM25 projects.

Although there were high hopes that the XM8 would become the Army's new standard infantry rifle, the project was put on hold in April 2005, and was formally canceled on October 31, 2005. However, the weapon is now in service with Malaysian special forces and some private military companies.
