Just wondering if anyone had some advice on this subject. I have a 10/22 compact and the take down screw keeps coming loose, the barrel will wiggle and rattle after about 100-150 rounds or so. I have a feeling it's effecting the accuracy as well. Their is no barrel band to keep it from moving, only the one screw. Would locktite work? Or would that create problems for the next time I want to take it apart?

Thank you.
Cody.

^ I have a 10/22 compact as well and it does the same thing without the barrel band. Loctite is gtg, just dont use the red, blue is better, it will come off easier for takedown.

Thanks, I figured some blue locktite would do it, but wanted to check before I do something stupid, I just bought the thing a month ago, last thing I need is to go an mess it up. But if blue locktite can hold the bolts for my foot pegs on my motorcycle, then it will work for my gun. The bike vibrates more than the gun.

You mean there is no v-block?

The compact model doesn't have a barrel band. Carbines do.

If the screw is bottoming out you'll see a shiney spot at the bottom of the hole where it rubs. After taking a bit off you can lay down a small strip of thin rubber, like a piece of inner tube, in the barrel channel right in front of the v-block. This should give a little back pressure to the screw and also help keep it from loosening.

And don't just crank down the screw. Snug should do it. I torque mine to 18 inch pounds.

I would use purple Loctite instead of blue . It is meant for small fasteners and is low strength but will be sufficient to hold the take down screw and the screw will come out later without damaging the head.

Your barrel wiggles with the v block off? The barrel on the 1022 i used to have was fitting into the receiver very tight. I needed tools to take it off.

I may have worded that wrong, the barrel is tight in the receiver, it's the entire unit itself coming loose from the one take down screw backing off. The barrel, action, and receiver are all tight, it's the entire unit that comes loose from the stock.

I just put blue locktite on mine today since I was having the same problem. Although, I leave the locktite on the screw to dry prior to installation. It is much easier to clean locktite off a screw than out of the threaded hole.
