I have an old SxS that locks up fairly loose with the forestock off. i have no use for it and was thinking of getting rid of it but im curious to know if anyone will even buy it like it is. Can it be fixed? Can it be sold? Or should it just be taken to the RCMP to be destroyed?

I dont know what make it is... cant remember the name and dont want to go digging for the reg cert.

Depends on what kind of old SxS it is. Could be worth a bit for it's parts.

I have a rather socialist neighbor. Farmer that loves the canadian Wheat Board...in Alberta...

Anyways when Bill C-68 came into effect he registered all his guns except for 2 shotguns. A Winchester 1897 in 16ga, and a Model 12 in 12ga, because the '97 had a bulge in the barrel, and the 12 would fire as soon as you closed the slide without touching the trigger at all(yes both where in rough shape, and clean guns? Whats that).

He used his cutting torch on them...at the time I had just turned 18 and of course calling him out on being an idiot means I'm just a young dumb-ass. I really couldn't believe it...

Does it have external hammers?? If so then its not really worth fixing but if it has internal hammers then yes it would be worth something and I would be interested it buying it. I have fixed the lockup on shotguns before. Not too complicated, just weld some new in and file it to the right size.

I would really be interested in finding out what manufacture it is. Send me a PM if you plan on selling it if it has internal hammers.

The loose fit can be fixed - whether you want to pay for it is another question. How loose is it? My first shotgun was a used Stevens 511 that was loose in lockup. 40 years late and god knows how many shells it's still loose - and still works just fine.

Yup, external hammers. Why does that make it not worth fixing? just curious...
My gun guy is a retired tool and die maker ( European trained) and can fix up a SXS that is so loose a mouse can crawl into it when it's closed!
it can be done, and if the gun is of a good brand, worth it.

It all depends on the manufacture. Most external hammer shotguns are black powder and are not safe to shoot. I have seen many at the gun shows going for $50. And yes it is unsafe to fire if it doesn't lockup tight. Actually some places that sell shotgun will not sell them if don't lock-up tight because they are unsafe.
