So the front (factory) sight on my P226 is loose enoungh that with a slight bump it will slide to the left about 5mm. This is affecting my already bad shooting (especially when I don't notice that it has shifted right away).

I'm looking for suggestions on how to tighten it back up.

Thanks

The sight is held in the dovetail on the slide by friction alone. How old is your 226? Was it damaged in some way? Dropped perhaps? They usually don't work themselves loose but it sounds like you may have to replace yours.

Its an older 226, a factory referb. I have never dropped it, and didn't notice the loose sight for about 8 months after I bought it....hope its not the dovetail that damaged.

I don't think the dovetail would be damaged as you would notice a "ding" in the steel. It could be that the sights have been adjusted by the previous owner without using the proper tools or they have been switched a few times. It takes quite a bit of force to remove them normally.

I saw a new guy who had bought a CPO Sig with the same problem, if you go on to the sig forum you will notice he is not alone, it has been a recurring problem mostly with the CPO ones.

Remove sight. Place sight on hard surface. Using steel punch and hammer, indent both sides of sights dovetail. Re-insert. You should be good to go now. I'd even put a drop of blue-loctite in the cut as well for added insurance.

I had the same problem with a brand new P226. It was fixed in much the same fashion, hammer and loctite worked pretty good.
