My brother and I bought a Remington model 7600P for my father 2 years ago. He was in his deer blind yesterday and he noticed a gap between the receiver and the action. To his suprise, the barrel was loose  . There was at least a 1/8" gap between the barrel and the action. The gun is like new, less than 100 rounds fired.

Has anyone ever seen this before. What could have caused this. Any suggestions to make sure it doesn't happen again. He has since retightened the barrel.

Thanks,

I've never heard of it happening in a 7600, and i've put quite a few rounds thru mine. Must have been a glitch at the factory. If it's been repaired, i suspect that's the last you'll see of it.

Nice feature for taking down the rifle and cleaning the barrel from the breech....some of them are a real bxtch to loosen the tube holding the barrel extension to the receiver...

As previously mentionned... a little sealant is what the factory uses to ensure almost permanent connection...

Personally I would use one of the less rigorous locktites to hold it together... after making sure that the threads weren't stripped .... as was the case on my 7600 on the through bolt holding the butt to the receiver.

had once in 308 except there was waay more wobble in the barrel. Took it apart and inspected it. There was no locktite or other sealant on the nut. Threads were fine, pput it back together with the locktite of course and back in business.

If you haven't tightened it yet, take the forend hanger off, de-grease the threads (inside and outside) and put some blue loctite on it and cinch it down. Use a correct diameter pin to tighten the hanger extension, failing that, take it to a gunsmith who should have the correct wrench for it.
