LOP For Combat/Police/IPSC Shotgun?

Gentlemen, thanks for the pics and a well written procedure. I have cut stuff down before, so it is not my first rodeo. I have never ground a recoil pad down before, so that will be a new one for me. I plan to use a belt sander to shape the pad and I will be refinishing the wood, so a final fit sanding with the pad installed sounds like a good idea. Manbearpig, good heads up on the bottom screw, I will keep a close eye on that when I get into it.

My 870 just has a curved plastic butt plate on it and I will be installing a medium sized Limbsaver grind-to-fit pad that I had laying around here. I think I will be doweling the existing screw holes and redrilling to suit the Limbsaver pattern. I am going to start with the LOP at 13.75" and see how that feels with the Limbsaver on, then work from there. I may take another 1/4"-3/8" off if it still feels awkward on close range stuff.

Thanks,
Mark

and the Hogue short LOP again:

i guess you could call the former a low-budget version of the latter.
