Lost deer tonight/ pass through no blood

It will happen to every hunter eventually if they hunt enough. That you have put in a full effort to track and recover the animal, and that you still feel upset abou not finding it, is what matters.

And, while certainly not the reason we go hunting, in cases like this, Coyotes and Crows need food too.

Good news for me, I found it this morning. Died in it's bed about 300 yds from my shot. All I found was a little hair at the shot, no blood there or the 300 yds I tracked it.

I was about to write it off as a nick due to no blood but glad I stayed on it!

Congrats on the animal. That's a nice looking buck.

Glad you had the ambition to continue the seemingly fruitless search, and that you were ultimately able to recover the animal.

Out of curiosity, where was the shot? A little high? Belly full of the blood you couldn't find?

I took a nice buck during rifle season. Was in my tree stand, about 40 yards away and took it with a .308. Luckily it only went 20 yards and fell down in open field. I could see where it fell in chest high grasses. When I inspected it, I couldn't figure out where I actually hit it. Thought I had a nice shot that should have double lunged it, but couldnt' find an entry or ext wound in the hide. It wasn't until I field dressed it that I found the lungs were turned to mush, and found the entry wound through a high spot in the ribs. There was no exit wound, so would have been no trace at all, had it not hit the lungs. The last few deer I've taken I've blown out the shoulder on exit, so was surprised when there was no exit on this. If it hadn't fallen, it might not have been found.
