This is the one that got away that I cry myself to sleep at night over.

The .300 Winchester Magnum in the middle. That was my sweetheart. I bought that rifle off my buddy, who couldn't shoot it. I fired the first shot from that rifle, unsighted just for fun and knocked over a 300 yard steel pig offhand.

It started life as a model 70 Black Shadow, with a synthetic stock and matte bluing. One Fall I was walking back to my truck parked along a forestry road. I was following another old road and I looked at my rifle. Here I was in Gods country, surrounded by everything beautiful and I was carrying an ugly rifle. :(

I got home and swapped stocks with a beat up walnut handle. I stripped it down, fixed the dings and scratches and gave it several coats of Linseed oil, and rubbed it to smoothness with complete love. Then I stripped the metal down to the white, and cold blued the metal. The result was a brand new rifle that looked older, usually the opposite of what guys want.

Then I gave the rifle to a local gunsmith, (big mistake) and he installed the iron sights for my back ups. See, I was planning on a plains game hunt in Africa, and started saving a bit of money to go. Plans changed, but I still hope to go one day.

This rifle was extremely accurate, and loved Hornady's 165 SST bullet. It was so good in fact, that it would outshoot a fellow that I know with his .300 Dakota. I put so many rounds down that barrel that I could almost shoot it blindfolded. I sold it in a moment of weakness, and have regreted it ever since. Who ever you are that owns her now, if you feel sypathetic to me and want to sell it back, I'll take her off your hands for you.

Remington M700 Classic in 300 H&H magnum. It could shoot itself, all it needed was someone to point her in the right direction. It made the rounds here on CGN, and now resides out west. It was given to it's present owner by Doug as payment between good friends for a hunt a couple of years ago. He who owns it now has one sweet rifle, please take care of that little lady and I know she will take care of you.

Remington 581 lefthand that looked as if it was brand new. Traded straight across for a pos nef single shot in 17 hmr. I've had two of those 581's now i have none. I should still have two.

my favourite

A winchester 9422mag bought it at a service station from a drunk guy who bought it new the day before with a bushnell rifle scope 2x8 with B.D.C.
Spent his money on whiskey and needed gas money to get home offered it to me for $50.00 . wont even tell you what i shot with that gun and at what distances. unbelively accurate. Gave her away 6yrs later to right a wrong.
last year at calgary gun show bought a new one not fired in the box.
happy happy glenn

There are a couple that I kick my self for selling but the one I miss the most is a stainless Colt Delta Elite in 10mm. I know where it is and I will have it back someday - when my father is finished playing with it.

I must be a philandering sort for I regret the loss of two;

1956 Brno ZG 47 deluxe in .270 win, my younger brother has it as I wanted him to start with a decent rifle.

1927 square bridge Waffen Fabrik Oberndorf in 7x57, factory fitted with a Zeiss Zielvier in detachable Akah mounts, sold to alleviate a not so temporary strain on the wallet.

Miss my Husky H-5000 .308 Win

Since this is the rifle board.... my 'lost one' is a Husqvarna H-5000 in .308 Win with the schnabel forend stock. Most accurate .308 Win I've ever owned. Let it go to an acquaintance for a first rifle for his son. Wish I hadn't done that....

:slap:

6.5x55 swedish mauser. I customized with my dad when I was 14. Cut the military stock cut it into a sporter style. Built a spoon bolt handle out of stainless. A neat gun that shot very well.

a few come to mind...my first Rem 700, a stainless mountain rifle in 260 with a WildCat Composites fiberglass stock...a laminate stainless 700 in 338 Ultra...a laminate stainless 700 in 7saum...but the one I regret selling is the mint 80s vintage 700 BDL in 8mm Rem Mag

I bought it for $400! it was mint, beautiful rifle with a slick action. I could buy it back I suppose, but not for $400 :( in my limited amount of shooting I did with it, it was accurate too.

My sako finbear in 7mm mag. The fellow I sold it to came with me to the range to test it out. I hammered the 400 yd turkey in front of him. He called lucky shot so I set him behind the rifle and told him where to aim and he dropped three 500 yd rams in a row. He forked over the money right away.

I should never of sold that gun.

Yeah, and I wish I had bought it from you.

Mine was a Remington model 7 in .243. I LOOOOVED this bolt action. I tried rebarelling it to a .308 for bigger hunting game. After tweeking it, the wood stock broke in half... honestly broooooke in half. It was sad... I should have never have tried to change soemthing so perfect. Now I have a Stevens 200 in .243... It shoots great but it's not my Remington model 7 seven... Sigh... sniff...

When I was growing up, my uncle had a small collection of guns, including one he promised would be mine some day. An almost-mint Winchester 92 in .25-20 that he picked up at an auction in the early fifties for $35.00 or so. It had close to 100% blueing, excellent wood, all original....just a great rifle, shot and hunted with very little. 24" round barrel, full mag, crescent buttplate. Years later my uncle got forgetful, and sold the rifle when he sold almost all his guns. I never asked him how much he got for it, but I bet some lucky Kenora hunter got a great deal!
Also, my great-uncle died 25 years ago and left his hunting rifle to my uncle. A bit later my uncle sold his farm and, not being a hunter and knowing the new law required registration (this was 1994), he sold the rifle to his next-door neighbour for either $20.00 or $50.00.
The rifle is a Winchester 1984, 26" round barrel, half mag. crescent butt, very good condition, .32 Special. Lots of blue, and good wood except for a splinter out of the forearm. It has what appears to be a factory tang sight, a Marbles IIRC. I contacted the buyer a few years later (when I found out) but he says he has shot ten deer with that gun and it's now his favourite. So now I guess it'll be his family heirloom instead of mine.

mine was a sweet spanish sxs in 20ga. I bought it unseen from a friend of a friend who thought it was a 28 ga. I already had a 20 so in a moment of weakness I let it go. Man was it a sweetheart though. Fit me like few did, light balanced and oh so quick to point. Ah well I wish I had her back.
