Well bugger....looks like Greyhound express has lost my Elk meat! Buddy shipped it from Camrose,AB on Monday and should have arrived in Victoria Wednsday. Here we are Saturday and Greyhound can't locate it. Figure it's rotting in a warehouse somewhere or sitting in someones freezer! Never again and whats worse is I'll have to eat cow all year now.

Seems the airlines have a bit of a reputation for "losing" Live Lobsters shipped in from the East Coast too !!!

Did you mark the outside of the package as "Frozen Skunk" to help ensure it's safe delivery, or did it say "Nice, Yummy, well-prepared cut & wrapped Elk" on the outside ???

Sorry for the loss !

meat

Yes it was labelled as "frozen perishable". What pisses me off the most is there Tracking department never returned my calls since Wednesday evening and now operator says they are closed until Monday! The local depot has searched high and low and promises to call me as soon as they know something. This is 3rd year I've had my meat shipped and likely my last. Flying to a hunt has its benefits in time saved etc, but this is the downside. Guess I'll be taking the truck from now on.

Well thats too bad Longbranch.
Hopefully it's being stored out doors somewhere over the weekend and when you get it back, just consider the meat as being well aged. Wild game can take a lot.
It's the only positive thing I can say about you're situation.:(

I brought back the best choice steaks as carry on luggage, just in case something like that happened to me.

The girls at the airport(west Jet) had no problem with that meat as carry on.

Love them western girls.:)

How much do they charge to fly it?

Lost then found meat

So thats who sent me this ELK? THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

Har! har! Well Greyhound called me this evening telling me my shipment had arrived (4 days late). Huuge line up at the door, but receiving was a walk-in fortunately.
Over worked, not so friendly counter people were no help with my questions about why it took 3 times the usual time to get here. Just a shrug and "well it's Christmas...Duuuhhhh". Anyway, drove home with my 65 lbs of Elk meat not knowing what to expect. Opened it up in the garage and low and behold it was still frozen hard as a rock!
Anyway, wont do anymore long distance deals like that again. What you save going by air isnt worth the risk of losing equipment, meat etc. Next September I'm taking my gas sucking Hemi 4X4 on my mainland hunts.
Thanks for listening.
Cheers
