Lost my Milsurp Mojo!

Well I've gone from one to two milsurp buys a month down to one to two every four months...

I used to go to the range twice a week, I now go about every three months....

I have paired down my collection to shooters and "nice peices" and have sold all my doubles, (two of a kind, not barrels). My collection is now mostly WW2 with some WW1 pieces.

It seems to me I have lost my Milsurp Mojo or perrhaps it is a stage?

Anyone else int he same boat, I've been shooting since I was 14 but only got into milsurps in 1999.
 
It's a stage in life. Don't worry about it. I'm at a point in life where I am selling off stuff I'll never use. Maybe it is part of growing up:)
 
It happens, but it's unacceptable and can't continue. Time for an intervention. :)

A common cure is a sabattical from the sport, but that's dangerous. Another is adding a new aspect of the shooting sports to your repertoire, such as casting, or collecting some militaria like bayonets or uniform pieces. Placing a strong focus on one particular aspect such as Canadian or Commonwealth Arms?

We don't want to lose you brother. ;)
 
I agree with Andy. You must go on a Quest. Think about something, firearm or accessory, that you have never owned or seen but thought you might like to have. Research, sluth, or travel and hunt it down. Spark the fire and come back to us.

I hear ya! I get to the range WAY LESS than I once did, but like you, I still have relatively small kids at home and a wife who expects me to be superdad.

I also buy and sell far less frequently than I once did, but I tend to keep pieces I like and when I do buy a gun now, it's usually expensive and a stellar example of what I'm after.

You can't buy them all, far better to buy fewer exceptional pieces than ever dog that comes along ;)

One thing we could focus on is having you & Andy host at least double the number of milshoots!

Oh she has known for years. I am in the 50+ range for guns and as far as I know you can't hide that!

And for you other guys out there who are curious how to EASILY go from 25 to 50+ WITHOUT the warden finding out...try this...

My workshop is in my garage. Small but workable. Everytime I buy a new piece, I put it in my workshop and do not bring it right in the house. Later on, I then take two guns out to the workshop to clean when the warden is home. Oddly enough, three come back in.

If my wife was that smart with shoes I would have built another shoe closet in the garage... :)

Well, I am saving up for a chainsaw but after that, I think I might get serious about a WW2 Springfield.

Sounds like it's time for a couple of Russian SKSs. A few un-issueds and a couple of refurbed shooters should be a good place to start!

Actually, last Milsurp I bought was in January and it was a Russian SKS. I used to own about 8 SKS, (hence the CGN name), but until the Rusky came along I was down to my Yugo. Right now I have more Mosins (about 8) and Enfields (about 9) so maybe I should be SKSmosfield! :)

I think part of the problem was that I bought a Quad (Arctic Cat 500) this fall and sunk most of my "disposible income" for the fall-winter season into that.

I blame it all on the excessive prices of ammo lately. going from cheap fun sport to only a rich mans sport in under 3 years. The way ammo prices are sky rocketing the only trigger time I can afford is ether my 22's or snap caps.
 
I think this happens with many people and their hobbies. I have run the course with many and as a result started new ones. I recycle the elements of the old ones that no longer interest me and turn that into something new and exciting.
My latest "lost my mojo" hobby is pocket knives. I had/have so many its funny. I dont count them I weigh them. Any one want 100 pounds of pocket knives? Cheap!
