Recently purchased a .17hmr, has no muzzle break but the barrel is threaded, I know silencers are a no no….does anyone know of a muzzle break that will actually make this a little quieter? Without breaking any laws? I’m trying not to piss off my neighbours….

Linear brakes are about the only thing you could add to the gun, but they help redirect the gun's report (Forward), they don't really reduce the noise itself. Not sure what gun you're running, but shorter barrels really ramp-up the noise level. (ie, Savage FV-SR models) No getting away from the "crack" when using ammo that fast. It's a big reason why there is so much misinformation around sound moderators. (=suppressors) Unless the ammo is subsonic, the gun will be loud even with one...just not AS loud. The Liberals would have you believe they're all whisper-quiet. Just look at the government's response to petition E-575. You must have criminal intent if you even mention the word suppressor. :p Guess our allies in western Europe know something we don't.

You need a range muffler, like Galt posted. But you are still going to get a super sonic crack.

Though a muzzle brake would be better with the range muffler.

Thanks for the info guys, yeah I guess I would be a criminal for not wanting to bother my neighbours lol. I think I will go with linear comp and possibly the tire or hay bail method. Cheers
