I got my Colt King Cobra a couple days ago, and all I can say is this is one sweet wheelgun. I had never handled one prior to getting this, but had always heard great things about them and wanted one for the collection. It has been well enjoyed to judge by the almost complete lack of blueing left on the cylinder, but that doesn't bother me in the least. I have a couple Ruger GP100s, my first revolvers, and I quite like them. Then I got a S&W 629, and the action on it was a great deal smoother than the Rugers. But the Colt? It makes both of them look like old farm tractors by comparison. The fit and finish is superior, and the action is just beyond description. Soooo smooth! I can hardly wait to take it to the range....I'm torn, go shoot the pistol, or go hunting? I think I'm going to fill the freezer first......

I am still debating sending it to Armco for refinishing, apparently Gunnar has an expert refinisher, so I am sorely tempted to restore it (the cylinder is just too shiney, as the pictures show). Nevertheless, I am very happy with the newest addition to the collection....of target pistols.

Congrats on your new Colt, very nice! I can't understand why the blue is completely gone on the cylinder and and the rest of the gun doesn't show wear??? It looks like someone wanted a two-tone...what did the seller tell you about that?

Depending on the price you paid, the gun might lose value if refinished!

Bought the gun out of EE here, the gun was properly described and the price was very right for a King Cobra. Seller did not give any explanation of why blueing was gone, I didn't ask, just said 'I want it'....but if I was a guessing man, someone at some point tried to clean it with something he shouldn't have. As far as losing value on a refinish, yes, it may. But as I have no intention of ever parting with this, it would be for me, and I don't care for the two tone look as much as a really nice Royal Blue. Either way, I'm in no hurry to 'fix' it....for now, that crazy smooth action and the sound of thumbing back that hammer is enough to give me Colt Wood!

You did good, and did you know that the blue are more scarce than the SS. They are more sought after by collectors. Usually Colt makes a blue gun and after a SS. For the KC they did the opposite, and did not make them for long.
Does it have a flat or crown barrel?

Good question on barrel, I'm no Colt expert by any means (but could surely see becoming one as budget permits!)....explain to me the context of 'flat vs crown' so when I tell you I don't sound like an idiot? I agree I did well on it, I have been watching and waiting for two years trying to get one, blue was my preference but SS would have been groovy too. I paid the same for this as I did for my new GP100, when it was on sale! You will have to imagine my happy dance.

This is just my 2 cents but I'd shoot it and enjoy it. Then I'd say goodgye to it for a year while it's at the Colt Custom Shop getting a tune up and the famous Colt Royal Blue re-finish. No value lost if Colt's the one doing the polishing!

I did consider that as well, and it is a distinct possibility......

I hate you for being a couple of minutes faster than me....... hate .......you.......so......much. :p

Good on ya, no kidding the price was right. I didn't even ask questions just sent an I'll take it, but you were faster on this one. Good to see it's in a good home.

Even with the wierd cylinder it's still worth more with original finish. Of course it's yours now and you can do what you like, such as selling it to me ;).

Ooooooo, good point. Much better than an Armco reblue and doesn't lose value.

LOL....I was on that like a hungry fat kid on smarties! No offense to fat kids....I couldn't PM fast enough, I knew that it was going to be gone damn quick. This one is going to go nowhere, anytime, except maybe to the Colt Custom shop (just sent them an email actually). But if I ever decide that guns are evil frightening things and I should join the NDP, I'll shoot you a PM and you can have first dibs on it.

Woudn't be holding my breath though.....

Well, I heard back from Colt, and they quoted me $325 to completely reblue and polish my KC....any other work I want done is an extra, but I don't think it needs any other work. Next step is finding someone to handle the export/import side of it. Any recommendations?

Well....It's up to you but if you consider $325 to reblue + at least $100 shipping + $100 to $150 export + the price you paid the gun, I think that you will be way over the price that you could ever sell it. If it was a rare Python I would understand....
If you decide not to go with the whole refinish, you might consider to have only the cylinder redone by Colt. Sure, it might not be the same exact blue but it will be better looking than it is now and way cheaper. But first tell us how it shoots!:D

OK
