I finally got some time to head to the range yesterday to test out some handloads and get a handful of hunting rifles out practice with.
Of the rifles I brought, the one that I enjoyed the most was the Ruger Scout. Mine has a synthetic stock i did a paint job on, turned out pretty good, and the stock iron sights. I do have a bunch of Magpul AICS polymer mags for it and made a noticeable difference in working the bolt more smoothly.
Sure, the weren't the tightest groups I've ever shot, but for iron sights, after not using them in so long, I was more than happy. The trigger is clean with a crisp break, its handy and lightweight, the sights excellent. I had forgotten how much I loved this rifle. A perfect companion in the Northern Ontario wilderness I frequent.
So if anybody else has a Ruger Scout sitting in the safe that you haven't had out in awhile, give it a try, you might be surprised at just how nice, and useful, of a rifle it actually is!
