I know nothing about optics... Yet. So I need some help finding the appropriate optics for my needs, be it new or old manufacture.

I am looking for a maximum fixed magnification of 3.5x, and a minimum of 2.5x. The bigger the eyepiece lens the better. Standard eye relief distance, so no "scout", pistol, or bow scopes. A single vertical post reticle preferred but will make do with a German #1. No illumination needed.

The only thing close to what I am looking for is this VOMZ optic. I could order a custom Leupold, but I do not want to spend that much on this project. Even this VOMZ scope is pushing it.

Does anyone have any cost effective options, or any suggestions of makes and models?

$85.32 is pushing it?

Leupold compact 2.5x fits the bill. Super small, lightweight, good eye relief, proven durability and best of all, it doesn't need to be sent to Asscrackistan in the unlikely event that warranty work is ever needed.

Sorry, didn't realize the price range you were looking at. Leupold's out. Maybe NCStar or Leapers has something that would work? One of my favourite hunting scopes is the Leupold 1-4x20mm...you can often find them used at gun shows for around $250.

When f55 showed me is Hilux 1X4 on is XCR-M , i did order one, never heard of those scopes before and to my great pleasure when i recieved it, i realized it is top quality very clear, fell like a 700.00 scope for under 400.00, i am very happy to discover this little cie and did order another one in 4X16X50 in 30mm tube... JP.

I will outline my project. I am sporterizing a Russian SKS; don't worry, I am looking for the lowest collectable grade pined and refurbished SKS I can find to bastardize. And no, I am not going to completely bubbarize it with a synthetic stock and all those tactical addons. I have chosen to install a replica PU mount as it seems period accurate and looks rather good when installed. It also sits nice and low over the receiver.

All I need is a scope, other than a PU scope replica. The reason I want a low magnification single post scope is because I know the SKS is not a good candidate for long range shooting. To my understanding the single post will better suit the ballistic characteristics of the SKS. More of a rough reference of where the bullet will go.

A used Weaver (steel tube) pf 2.5 or 3X would work. I have some with the single post. Good solid scopes. I typically pay about $75 for one at a gunshow.
This is the route that I would go, and also put a WTB in the optics EE forum..
You might also consider a used Bushnell 4 power with standard plex or command post which has a fine crosshair with a flip up post..
They are not a compact scope however..

I have a bushnell 1.5-4x32 if u want to make me an offer. It seems like it would suit what u want pretty good!
Pm me if interesred.

Leupold fixed 2.5 , still allows me to use stripper clips, only quality scope I found to do this so far

I guess those are my two best options. The LOMO/VOMZ 3.5x and the Leupold 2.5x. I would really like to keep it Russian. It just missed out on a LOMO scope on gun broker. $100 it went for.

when it comes to optics I never just look at just the price they are one of the most important parts of your setup. I would prefer open sights before a cheap scope.
