Low Number 1903 Springfields

Shooting a low number M1903 is an individual choice; some do, most don't. I avoid low numbers. They are all at least 100 yrs old and have seen various levels of wear and rebuild. There are enough high number Springfields around.

Funny, I've only encountered one M1903 with a cracked receiver, and it was a high number Remington.

I have a Springfield sporter with NS /nickel steel bolt and a Redfield model 70 rear aperture sight. It's in the safe serial # range want to either repair the existing Bishop stock or perhaps order a Boyd's? Likely use it to punch paper or as a hiking/backup rifle for hunting or bear repellent.

An M1903 makes and excellent sporting rifle. The coned breech of the M70 Win was copied from it and an M1903 extractor will fit a pre-64 M70. I built one on an early Rem M1903 action and its been a MOA shooter with all of 150, 165 and 180 gr handloads.

I saw a very attractive .458 Win sporter build on a M1903 Mk1 action at a recent gun show. I was very tempted, but found it difficult to reconcile a .458 Win with my current and projected hunting needs.

Don't forget the VERY SIGNIFICANT RECOIL, which make reconciling extremely difficult

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

Liberals really like POOR people, they're making more of them every day.

If you can't vote CPC, stay at home in protest

I kind of have got overloaded on Jack O'Conner as a impressionable youth so that's my excuse. Mausers , Springfields and Win model 70's CRF pre-64 and modern Classic.
