Hello. Im sure this has been asked more than once so i appologize. I'm looking at building a all round deer gun for my area. The gun will be a BAR in 30-06.

The idea im going for is something with a 1x or 2x low end and preferably a illuminated reticle however that's not a deal breaker.

For the high end im not opposed to a 4x but would prefer to get to like a 6x or so.

Like anything i realize the limitation is money. Im not opposed to spending a bit of cash and i have a 3-9 i could make do with for the first year anyways. That being said im not looking to spend 2k either. There is alot of AR-15 oriented scopes out there that meet this but my concern is putting them on a 30-06 for durability

Thanks!!

A Leupold VXR 1-4 with a red dot is a very nice scope that will fit your needs.
A little less expensive option is a Nikon Monarch 1-4x20
Both are nice glass.

This works, especially with the German #4 reticle.

I have two of these really clear glass and i love the #4 reticle.

What i dont like is the limited top end. Here my game animal is coastal blacktail. They are tiny, with horns that would only make the Boone and Crockett on a Jackalope. Pretty hard to see horn smaller than ears at 4x.

See if you can find a steel Weaver 1-4.5 X 20(from my cold dead hands) or likely my cousin's youngest boy, aka the worst shot in the family will get it in my will!

Yes, agreed.
I have the German #4 in mine as well and it is very nice.
This scope is a true 1 power on the low end so gives a great wide view in the tight stuff.

If you want a 1X, just put a quality red dot on the rifle - Aimpoint Micro or something similar.

If you want some magnification, it's hard to beat a low power fixed magnification scope - Leupold makes FX-II scopes in both Scout type and conventional. Because fixed magnification scopes are simpler than variable scopes, for a given price point they are lighter, tougher, have a clearer image, and offer better light transmission than a variable.

Find an old Leupold 3X, install, go to the range, sight 180 gr bullets in three inches high at 100 yards, and go hunting.

You will fulfill every requirement mentioned in your original post, and be amazed at how well you can shoot big game.

I have 4 of these scopes they are all on 40 cal & up. Great scopes. I also have several Nikon 2-8 Monarch 3's on various cals which will work well for a 30/06. If you can find one Leupold made a VX3 1.75-6x32. Good scope also. I have one on a 9.3x62.
Any reputable 2-8, 1-6, or 3-9, etc will work. Good quality AR scopes can work as well.
