hello all, looking for a little assistance. trying to rebuild a sporterized lee, trying to install the lower band, rifle is completely stripped, must the complete front sight be removed to install this. I am thinking just the blade of the front sight. If so, how is the blade sight removed, special tool??

thanks to anyone/all for their assistance

Just the sight blade needs to be removed. There are a couple of differant styles,Does yours have the screw on the front of the base or is it solid? With the solid kind I push the sight out with a punch,or undo the screw and push out with fingers.I made a front sight screw removal tool by cutting off an old screwdriver and cutting a slot in the end.Hope this helps.Dave

To Dave S. - thank you sir, it is in fact the type with the screw,(requires a slotted device) to loosen. I fabricated a tool usung your suggestion of modifying a screw driver. It WILL not budge, so it is sitting overnight with some loosener.

Am really enjoying returning this old rifle to a reasonable representation of it's original condition. I really enjoyed cleaning up the wood and seeing that beautiful wood grain come out from under who knows how many years of build-up.

Fishdoc - thanks for the "mark the sight tip", with the price of 303 ammo would not want to use up a whole lot trying to get back on the paper.

The project continues, a few more small parts/pieces and this old rifle will be ready to go out to the range.....after a check out by a gunsmith...

"...fabricated a tool..." Well done. Good smithies always make their own tools.
"...It WILL not budge...sitting overnight with some loosener..." Penetrating oil? Overnight may not be long enough. The screw may be rusted in. Mind you, Lee-Enfield front sights were not made to be adjusted by the user. It could just be very tight. A longer, modified, screwdriver will give you more leverage.
If the oil doesn't work try a bit of heat. A few seconds with a regular propane torch. Stock off, of course.
Use a 12" screw driver for the butt stock. Might be a leather disk in the hole too. Comes out with a solid hunk of wire with a hook.
